Málaga’s young ceramic artists leave the classroom for the Mingorance Galleries
‘Time for Barro’ brings together work by students and graduates of Artistic Ceramics and Pottery in a free exhibition in central Málaga
Contemporary ceramics made in Málaga will have a new showcase in the heart of the city from 27 October. The Mingorance Galleries at the Municipal Archive will host ‘Time for Barro’, an exhibition featuring work by students from the Artistic Ceramics and Pottery programmes at Málaga’s School of Art and Higher Design.
The exhibition will run until 22 November and combines projects created during the academic year with pieces by former students. Its aim is to show just how many creative directions a traditional material such as clay can take when approached from a contemporary perspective.
Much more than pots and decorative objects
‘Time for Barro’ moves beyond the idea that ceramics should be limited to functional pieces.
The exhibition includes artistic works, installations and audiovisual proposals, alongside pieces rooted in more traditional ceramic techniques.
Technique, creativity and experimentation
Each piece also reflects part of the learning process behind it.
Visitors will be able to see how students combine technical skills with their own visual language, experimenting with forms, textures and different ways of using a material that has been part of everyday life for centuries.
A chance to discover new creators from Málaga
Bringing together current students and graduates gives the exhibition the feel of a small snapshot of the ceramic work now emerging from Málaga’s classrooms.
For visitors, it is also an opportunity to discover young creators before their work fully moves beyond the academic environment.
A free exhibition on Alameda Principal
The exhibition will be held at the Mingorance Galleries inside Málaga’s Municipal Archive, at 23 Alameda Principal, making it an easy cultural stop during a walk through the city centre.
‘Time for Barro’ opening times
Morning: 11:00 am to 2:00 pm
Evening: 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Dates: 27 October to 22 November 2026
Admission: free
Clay as a meeting point between tradition and contemporary art
One of the most interesting aspects of ‘Time for Barro’ is seeing how a material historically associated with everyday objects can be transformed into an installation, an artwork or even an audiovisual medium.
The exhibition turns the Mingorance Galleries into a showcase for a new generation of ceramic artists and offers a free cultural plan for anyone interested in discovering another side of the creative work currently being produced in Málaga.
