Torremolinos is preparing a major upgrade of its beaches to make them more accessible and comfortable for residents and visitors. The Town Hall has put out to tender a €1.61 million project covering ten points along the coastline, from El Saltillo to Los Álamos, with new toilets, changing rooms, pergolas, platforms, accessible walkways and equipment designed to help people with reduced mobility enter the sea.

Ten beach areas will receive improvements

The work will be spread across different parts of the Torremolinos coastline in order to modernise and expand existing services.

From El Saltillo to Los Álamos

The ten locations are El Saltillo, La Carihuela-Plaza del Remo, Rincón del Sol, Bajondillo-Meliá, Bajondillo-Playamar, Copacabana, Playamar-Tres Caballos, Playamar-Hospital Marítimo, Los Álamos 1 and Los Álamos 2.

The aim is to create a more consistent network of accessible spaces along the coast, improving access routes, rest areas and public facilities.

New accessible toilets and facilities for people with stomas

One of the main changes will be the installation of new accessible toilet modules, including facilities specifically adapted for people with stomas.

The project will also include changing rooms, storage areas and auxiliary spaces, improving the services available to beach users with different needs.

More shade and rest areas

The plan also includes pergolas, benches, planters and platforms.

The new shaded areas will be especially useful during the summer months, while the platforms will improve spaces intended for resting and assisted bathing.

Accessible walkways closer to the sea

Another important part of the project will be the renewal and extension of accessible beach walkways.

These routes are intended to make it easier to move from the main access points towards the shoreline, reducing the difficulties posed by sand for wheelchair users, older people and anyone with limited mobility.

Amphibious equipment for assisted bathing

The improvements will continue all the way to the water.

Torremolinos will introduce amphibious equipment designed for assisted bathing, helping people who need additional support to enter and leave the sea safely.

Beaches designed for greater independence

The aim is to allow people with reduced mobility, disabilities, age-related needs or other specific requirements to use the beach with greater independence and safety.

The improvements will also benefit the wider public, as many of the upgraded facilities are used by all beachgoers.

The project also includes major infrastructure work

The scheme involves far more than simply installing new modules.

The contract includes demolition work, earthworks, foundations, drainage, water supply networks, electrical ducts, utility connections and the replacement of paving, as well as waste management during construction.

More than €1.6 million in investment

The total budget is €1,611,859.73 including VAT, while the amount before tax is €1,332,115.48.

The tender is divided into four lots covering the supply and installation of modules and furniture, amphibious equipment, civil works, and technical assistance including site management and health and safety coordination.

Companies can submit bids until November

The tender was published on 22 October and interested companies have until 19 November 2026 at 11:59 pm to submit their proposals.

The contract has an estimated duration of 18 months.

A project supported by European funding

The works form part of the “Improving Accessibility on the Beaches” project within the integrated action plan “Torremolinos, Transforming Paradise”.

The initiative is co-funded by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the 2021-2027 programme.

Torremolinos prepares more accessible beaches

With this investment, the municipality aims to move towards a beach model that is easier to enjoy regardless of age or mobility.

The work planned between El Saltillo and Los Álamos will not only modernise toilets and walkways, but also add shaded areas, rest spaces and specific solutions for reaching the sea, making ten parts of the Torremolinos coastline better equipped for both residents and visitors.
