Marbella to feature in ‘De Tapas por España’ as TVE wraps up the show’s third season
Adrienne Chaballe explores the Old Town, Puerto Banús, the municipal market and some of Marbella’s best-known restaurants in an episode combining gastronomy, history and culture.
Marbella is preparing to showcase its gastronomic and cultural side on national television. The city has been chosen as the setting for one of the episodes in the third season of ‘De Tapas por España’, the La 2 programme presented by Adrienne Chaballe.
The production team has filmed at different locations across the municipality to create an episode in which local cuisine shares the spotlight with history, art, the Old Town and some of Marbella’s most recognisable landmarks.
The Marbella shoot also has a special significance, as it marked the end of filming for the programme’s third season.
Marbella through food and history
The format of De Tapas por España uses gastronomy as a way to discover much more than restaurants.
Food acts as the starting point for exploring the history, heritage and people who help define the identity of each destination.
In Marbella, the journey begins with the city’s origins.
Presenter Adrienne Chaballe meets local chronicler Francisco Moyano near the castle walls to learn about key moments in Marbella’s history and how the city evolved into one of the best-known destinations on the Mediterranean.
From the castle walls to Plaza de los Naranjos
Marbella’s historic centre will play an important role in the episode.
After exploring the area around the old walls, the route continues through the whitewashed streets of the Old Town before reaching one of its most photographed locations: Plaza de los Naranjos.
The programme aims to show a side of Marbella that goes beyond the image usually associated with beaches, luxury hotels and high-end tourism.
Traditional architecture, narrow streets and historic spaces will help introduce viewers to the city’s older identity.
Traditional tapas in Marbella’s Old Town
Popular local cuisine will also have its place in the programme.
One of the stops is Bar El Estrecho, located on Calle San Lázaro.
There, Adrienne Chaballe samples dishes linked to Málaga’s traditional cuisine.
The selection includes recipes such as ensalada malagueña and octopus pipirrana.
This stop will highlight the traditional tapas culture of Marbella’s historic centre before the programme moves on to more contemporary gastronomic concepts.
Dani García joins Adrienne Chaballe at Marbella’s Municipal Market
One of the best-known culinary figures appearing in the episode is Marbella-born chef Dani García.
Chaballe joins him at the Marbella Municipal Market, where fresh produce and local ingredients become the focus of the conversation.
Meat, fish and Mediterranean products are used to explain the importance of quality ingredients within local cuisine.
The route then continues to Tragabuches, one of the restaurants associated with the chef.
Seafood salad and Málaga suckling goat
The visit with Dani García includes several dishes closely connected to Andalusian cuisine.
Among them are seafood salad and Málaga suckling goat.
The episode therefore combines traditional ingredients and recipes with contemporary interpretations.
This balance between tradition and evolution is one of the themes running through the programme’s visit to Marbella.
A visit to the Museum of Contemporary Spanish Engravings
Food will not be the only focus.
Adrienne Chaballe will also visit the Museum of Contemporary Spanish Engravings, one of Marbella’s main cultural institutions.
The visit takes place with its director, Germán Borrachero.
The museum holds a collection of around 4,500 works, including etchings, lithographs, woodcuts and screen prints, and specialises in the preservation and promotion of contemporary printmaking.
This stop adds an artistic and cultural dimension to the gastronomic journey.
Seafood and wine at Casa Curro
Another planned stop is Casa Curro.
There, the presenter will discover a selection of seafood products and wines alongside owner Curro Rodríguez.
Once again, the programme uses food as a way to explore local traditions and the continuing influence of the Mediterranean on Marbella’s cuisine.
The variety of venues featured in the episode will range from traditional bars to fine-dining restaurants.
Puerto Banús will also feature in the episode
An episode about Marbella would hardly be complete without Puerto Banús.
Adrienne Chaballe visits the marina accompanied by journalist Isabel Naranjo.
The programme will use this stop to explore the origins and development of a location that has become one of the best-known symbols of luxury tourism on the Costa del Sol.
Puerto Banús will provide a clear contrast with the historic centre and the more traditional areas featured earlier in the episode.
A stop in San Pedro Alcántara
The television route also extends to San Pedro Alcántara.
The production team visits El Ancla Beach Club, where the presenter learns about the preparation of a traditional seafood rice dish.
The recipe once again puts the focus on Mediterranean ingredients and the close relationship between Marbella’s cuisine and the sea.
The episode therefore offers a broader view of the municipality rather than concentrating only on Marbella town centre.
Marcos Granda and the fine dining of Skina
The final part of the gastronomic journey takes Adrienne Chaballe to Skina, the restaurant linked to Marcos Granda in Marbella’s Old Town.
This stop introduces the fine-dining side of the city’s culinary scene.
The dishes selected include an autumn tomato salad using produce from Ojén and a combination of langoustine, gazpachuelo and caviar.
The visit will show how ingredients and recipes associated with Málaga can be reinterpreted within a high-end gastronomic format while maintaining a strong connection with the local area.
Marbella closes filming for the third season
The Marbella shoot marks the end of filming for the third season of ‘De Tapas por España’.
Throughout the season, the programme has travelled to different Spanish cities with the aim of explaining each destination through a combination of gastronomy and heritage.
RTVE describes the format as a journey around Spain in which tapas, traditional dishes, markets, monuments and contemporary cuisine help reveal the identity of each place.
Adrienne Chaballe acts as the guide throughout each episode.
National television exposure for Marbella
Marbella’s appearance on the programme will provide another opportunity to showcase the destination to a national audience.
The episode will not focus exclusively on the city’s most familiar tourism image.
The Old Town, markets, traditional cuisine, fine dining, culture, San Pedro Alcántara and Puerto Banús will all feature within the same route.
The result is intended to present Marbella as a destination with several different identities, combining heritage, Mediterranean cuisine and tourism.
From traditional tapas to fine dining
The route created for the programme also reflects the diversity of Marbella’s food scene.
In a single episode, viewers will see a traditional Old Town tapas bar, the municipal market, Andalusian dishes, seafood cuisine and restaurants connected to internationally recognised chefs.
Dani García and Marcos Granda will represent the more high-end side of local gastronomy, while other stops will highlight more traditional recipes and establishments.
Together, they provide a broad picture of how Marbella eats today.
When will the Marbella episode be broadcast?
‘De Tapas por España’ is broadcast on La 2 and episodes are also available through RTVE Play.
The programme forms part of RTVE’s travel, culture and gastronomy content.
The exact broadcast date for the Marbella episode should be checked against RTVE’s updated schedule, as programming times can change.
When it reaches television screens, the episode will offer a journey through Marbella combining history, art, local produce and some of the city’s most representative flavours.
