A New Children’s Area at La Batería Park

Torremolinos Town Council has selected the project that will completely transform the children’s area at La Batería Park, one of the town’s most important green spaces and family attractions.

Named the Magical Forest, the development represents an investment of more than €1 million and will expand the facilities available to children and families.

The design will combine play equipment, water, vegetation and seating areas within a single landscaped route. Its appearance will be inspired by forests, animals and other natural elements.

Almost 600 Square Metres of Play Space

The project will divide the children’s area into two main sections. The first will contain almost 600 square metres of dry play equipment.

This surface will be organised into three separate but visually and functionally connected spaces. The layout will allow the equipment to be combined with trees, vegetation, pergolas and other forms of shade.

The design aims to recreate experiences associated with playing outdoors, including climbing, exploring and discovering hidden corners, within a modern and safe urban playground.

Equipment will be available for different age groups, with inclusive features intended to make the area accessible to children with different abilities.

A Splash Park with 21 Water Features

The main new attraction will be a 150-square-metre splash park featuring up to 21 interactive water elements.

The aquatic area will be integrated into the wider landscape of La Batería Park rather than operating as a separate enclosure. Water will form part of the Magical Forest’s themed route, providing an additional attraction during the hottest months.

The development will therefore combine traditional playground equipment and water-based entertainment within the same family space.

More Shade for Children and Families

At least 30% of the children’s area will be protected from the sun.

Shade will be provided by trees, pergolas and other solutions incorporated into the design of the playground. This measure is intended to make the space more comfortable for children and accompanying adults during the warmer months.

New seating and relaxation areas will also be created, allowing families to spend more time in the park.

Inclusive Play Equipment and Universal Accessibility

The redevelopment includes replacing the existing flooring and improving pedestrian routes to meet universal accessibility standards.

The paths will make it easier to move between the play areas and seating spaces. Architectural barriers will be removed, while equipment adapted to different ages and needs will be installed.

Other sections of the park will also be reorganised, with landscaping improvements and new green infrastructure helping the children’s area blend into its surroundings.

An Investment of More Than €1 Million

The renovation represents a total investment exceeding €1 million. It will be jointly funded by Málaga Provincial Council through the fourth phase of its 2025 Municipal Economic Assistance Plan.

The project has already been selected, although a specific construction timetable and opening date have not yet been publicly announced.

The development is intended to establish the children’s area at La Batería Park as a leading family attraction in Torremolinos and the wider Málaga metropolitan area.

One of Torremolinos’ Landmark Parks

La Batería Park is located in the Montemar Alto area and covers more than 74,000 square metres. Its main attractions include a boating lake, observation tower, walking paths, cycle lane and outdoor exercise areas.

The park also preserves reminders of its history as a coastal defence battery, including cannons and former underground bunkers.

The Magical Forest and new splash park will strengthen its role as a family-friendly green space used throughout the year by residents and visitors.
