Málaga 2027 work calendar: all public holidays and the main long weekends
Málaga will have 14 public holidays in 2027, combining national, regional and local dates. Easter, Andalusia Day and the December holidays will create some of the best opportunities of the year for long weekends and short breaks.
Málaga’s 2027 work calendar already makes it possible to start planning holidays, short breaks and long weekends. The year will include a total of 14 public holidays in Málaga city, combining national holidays, dates established by the Andalusian regional government and the two local holidays chosen by Málaga City Council.
The calendar offers several particularly interesting opportunities.
Andalusia Day will be moved to Monday 1 March because 28 February falls on a Sunday, Easter will provide four consecutive days off, and December will offer one of the best breaks of the year thanks to the proximity of Constitution Day and the Immaculate Conception.
Málaga also has two local public holidays: 19 August, marking the incorporation of the city into the Crown of Castile, and 8 September, the feast day of Our Lady of Victory.
The 14 public holidays in Málaga in 2027
The Málaga city work calendar is as follows:
1 January, Friday: New Year’s Day.
6 January, Wednesday: Epiphany.
1 March, Monday: Andalusia Day, moved to Monday because 28 February falls on a Sunday.
25 March, Thursday: Maundy Thursday.
26 March, Friday: Good Friday.
1 May, Saturday: Labour Day.
16 August, Monday: Assumption of the Virgin, moved to Monday because 15 August falls on a Sunday.
19 August, Thursday: Incorporation of Málaga into the Crown of Castile, local holiday.
8 September, Wednesday: Our Lady of Victory, local holiday.
12 October, Tuesday: Spain’s National Day.
1 November, Monday: All Saints’ Day.
6 December, Monday: Constitution Day.
8 December, Wednesday: Immaculate Conception.
25 December, Saturday: Christmas Day.
In total, there are 12 national and regional public holidays and two local holidays.
January starts with a three-day weekend
2027 will begin favourably for anyone who normally has weekends off.
1 January falls on a Friday, which means New Year’s Day will create a three-day break from Friday to Sunday.
The next public holiday arrives only a few days later.
Three Kings’ Day will fall on Wednesday 6 January.
Because it falls in the middle of the week, it does not automatically create a long weekend, although anyone with available holiday days will have several options for extending the break.
For example, taking Thursday 7 and Friday 8 January off would create five consecutive days away from work, from Wednesday to Sunday.
Andalusia Day creates a three-day weekend
One of the first major opportunities of the year arrives at the end of February.
Andalusia Day, 28 February, falls on a Sunday in 2027.
The public holiday will therefore move to Monday 1 March, automatically creating a three-day weekend.
For employees who normally work Monday to Friday, the break will run from Saturday 27 February to Monday 1 March.
It will be one of the clearest long weekends of the first quarter of the year.
Easter 2027: four consecutive days off
Easter will once again be one of the main holiday periods in the Andalusian work calendar.
In 2027, Maundy Thursday falls on 25 March and Good Friday on 26 March.
Both are public holidays in Andalusia.
As they fall immediately before Saturday 27 and Sunday 28, employees with a standard Monday-to-Friday schedule will have four consecutive days off.
This makes Easter one of the best times of the year for a short trip or getaway.
When is Easter in Málaga in 2027?
The main Easter dates arrive relatively early in the year.
Maundy Thursday is on 25 March, while Good Friday falls on 26 March.
This places the main Easter weekend between 25 and 28 March.
Anyone able to add holiday days before or after these dates could extend the break considerably.
For example, taking Monday 22, Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 March off would connect three holiday days with Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and the weekend.
1 May falls on a Saturday
The calendar is less favourable in May.
Labour Day, 1 May, falls on a Saturday.
For people who already have Saturdays off, this means there will be no additional weekday holiday.
It is one of the two major public holidays in 2027 that fall directly on a Saturday.
The other is Christmas Day.
August brings two Málaga holidays within four days
August will be one of the most interesting months in Málaga’s 2027 calendar.
The Assumption, which falls on 15 August, lands on a Sunday in 2027.
As a result, the public holiday will move to Monday 16 August.
This automatically creates a three-day weekend.
But Málaga city will also have another public holiday that same week.
Thursday 19 August will be a local holiday marking the incorporation of Málaga into the Crown of Castile.
A particularly favourable week during the Málaga Fair period
The proximity of the Monday 16 and Thursday 19 August holidays creates several possibilities for anyone with annual leave available.
Taking Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 off would connect the weekend with Monday’s public holiday and extend the break through Thursday 19.
Adding Friday 20 as another holiday day would create an even longer period away from work.
The timing is particularly attractive because August is already one of the main holiday months and coincides with the traditional period of the Málaga Fair.
19 August is one of Málaga’s two local holidays
Málaga City Council has designated Thursday 19 August 2027 as one of the city’s two local public holidays.
The date commemorates the incorporation of Málaga into the Crown of Castile.
This holiday applies specifically to Málaga city, so calendars may differ in nearby municipalities such as Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Marbella or Rincón de la Victoria.
Each Andalusian municipality proposes its own two local public holidays.
Anyone working outside Málaga city should therefore check the calendar for the municipality where their workplace is located.
Our Lady of Victory will be celebrated on 8 September
Málaga’s second local public holiday arrives just a few weeks later.
Wednesday 8 September will be a holiday for Our Lady of Victory, the city’s patron saint.
Because it falls on a Wednesday, it does not automatically create a long weekend.
However, people with flexible holiday arrangements could use annual leave around that date to extend their time off.
It is one of the dates traditionally included in Málaga city’s work calendar.
October offers another possible four-day break
12 October, Spain’s National Day, falls on a Tuesday.
This creates one of the clearest opportunities to turn a single holiday day into a longer break.
Anyone able to take Monday 11 October off could combine Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
That means one day of annual leave could create four consecutive days off.
It will be one of the easiest long weekends to take advantage of during the second half of 2027.
All Saints’ Day falls on a Monday
November will also begin with a long weekend.
1 November, All Saints’ Day, falls on a Monday.
Employees who normally have Saturday and Sunday off will automatically enjoy three consecutive days away from work.
The break will run from Saturday 30 October to Monday 1 November.
No annual leave will be needed.
The big December break in 2027
December will probably offer the best opportunities for one of the year’s longest breaks.
6 December, Constitution Day, falls on a Monday.
Two days later, Wednesday 8 December is a public holiday for the Immaculate Conception.
This leaves only Tuesday 7 as a working day between the two holidays.
Anyone able to take Tuesday off could enjoy five consecutive days away from work, from Saturday 4 to Wednesday 8 December.
It will be one of the most attractive breaks of the entire 2027 calendar.
The December break can be extended even further
The possibilities do not end there.
Anyone with additional annual leave could also take Thursday 9 and Friday 10 December off.
In that case, using three days of annual leave —7, 9 and 10 December— would create a break from Saturday 4 through Sunday 12.
The result would be nine consecutive days off using only three days of annual leave.
For this reason, December is likely to be one of the most popular periods for travel.
Christmas falls on a Saturday
The end of the year is less favourable.
25 December falls on a Saturday.
For people working Monday to Friday, Christmas Day will not provide an additional weekday off.
This contrasts with years when 25 December creates a longer weekend.
In 2027, the main Christmas-season opportunity will come earlier in the month with Constitution Day and the Immaculate Conception.
The best long weekends in Málaga in 2027
Several periods stand out in the calendar.
The first comes with New Year’s Day, as 1 January falls on a Friday.
Next is Andalusia Day, moved to Monday 1 March, creating three consecutive days off.
Easter provides four days from Thursday 25 to Sunday 28 March.
16 August, a Monday, offers another three-day weekend, while the local holiday on Thursday 19 falls in the same week.
12 October, a Tuesday, makes it possible to create a four-day break by using just Monday as annual leave.
1 November, a Monday, provides another automatic three-day weekend.
And finally, 6 and 8 December offer one of the best opportunities of the entire year.
Which public holidays fall on weekends?
Not all public holidays in 2027 are equally useful for creating time off.
Two dates fall directly on Saturdays:
1 May, Labour Day.
25 December, Christmas Day.
By contrast, two public holidays that originally fall on a Sunday will be moved to Monday.
28 February, Andalusia Day, moves to 1 March.
And 15 August, the Assumption, moves to 16 August.
Thanks to these transfers, both months gain a three-day weekend.
Málaga city and the rest of the Costa del Sol have different local holidays
The 12 national and regional public holidays apply across Andalusia.
What changes are the two local holidays.
In Málaga city, these are 19 August and 8 September.
However, Marbella, Fuengirola, Benalmádena, Torremolinos, Mijas, Estepona and other municipalities may choose different dates.
Anyone living or working elsewhere on the Costa del Sol should therefore check the specific local work calendar for that municipality.
National, regional and local public holidays: what is the difference?
The work calendar is created using several administrative levels.
Some public holidays apply across Spain.
Andalusia establishes additional dates and decides certain transfers when holidays fall on Sundays.
Finally, each local council proposes two local public holidays, bringing the total to 14 public holidays for each municipality.
In Málaga city, those two dates will again be 19 August and 8 September.
Málaga 2027 work calendar month by month
January: Friday 1 and Wednesday 6.
February: no working-day public holidays, as Andalusia Day falls on Sunday and moves to March.
March: Monday 1, Thursday 25 and Friday 26.
April: no general public holidays in Málaga.
May: Saturday 1.
June: no general public holidays.
July: no general public holidays.
August: Monday 16 and Thursday 19.
September: Wednesday 8.
October: Tuesday 12.
November: Monday 1.
December: Monday 6, Wednesday 8 and Saturday 25.
A calendar especially favourable in March, August and December
Although Málaga will have 14 public holidays in 2027, their distribution means some months are particularly useful for planning time off.
March includes the transferred Andalusia Day holiday and the two main Easter dates.
August combines the Assumption holiday with one of Málaga’s local public holidays.
December places Constitution Day and the Immaculate Conception very close together.
Planning annual leave around these dates will make it possible to get significantly more from the 2027 work calendar.
