Learning how to perform CPR, use a defibrillator or understand how much sugar is hidden in everyday products will be some of the activities taking place in central Málaga this Saturday.

The Málaga Official College of Nursing is holding the fifth edition of the Bazar de los Cuidados on 3 October, a public event designed to bring prevention and health education closer to everyday life.

The event will take place from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on the esplanade outside El Corte Inglés on Avenida de Andalucía, where 14 themed stands will be staffed by nursing professionals.

Participation will be completely free and no prior registration will be required.

14 stands to learn how to take better care of your health

The Bazar de los Cuidados is not designed as a traditional conference.

The aim is for visitors to take part, ask questions and practise certain health-related skills.

The 14 stands will cover topics that can arise at any point in everyday life.

These include:

  • first aid;
  • cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
  • use of defibrillators;
  • vaccination;
  • respiratory health;
  • diabetes and other chronic conditions;
  • nutrition;
  • sugar consumption;
  • vaping prevention;
  • alcohol and energy drinks;
  • bullying and cyberbullying;
  • caring for dependent people;
  • active ageing;
  • support during illness.

The goal is to offer simple and practical knowledge that people can use after the event.

How to react if someone collapses

One of the most practical areas will focus on emergencies.

Visitors will be able to learn basic concepts related to life support, CPR and the use of a defibrillator.

Knowing how to react during the first few minutes of an emergency can be especially important while waiting for medical services to arrive.

The event will allow visitors to understand the basic steps and practise some of these techniques with the help of nursing professionals.

What to do during a cardiac arrest

A cardiac arrest can happen anywhere: at home, in the street, during sport or in a public venue.

In these situations, recognising what is happening quickly and contacting the emergency services is essential.

Learning CPR techniques can help people without medical training understand how to begin an initial response.

Automatic and semi-automatic defibrillators have also become increasingly common in shopping centres, sports facilities, stations and public spaces.

Knowing how they work can therefore be useful for anyone.

Vaccination and disease prevention

Vaccination will be another of the main topics during the morning.

Professionals will be available to answer questions related to prevention and different stages of life.

The aim is not only to provide information, but also to create a space where visitors can speak directly to healthcare professionals.

This type of direct contact can help resolve questions that often remain unanswered after a consultation or arise after receiving conflicting information online or through social media.

A stand dedicated to respiratory health

Lung health will also have its own dedicated area.

Visitors will be able to learn about respiratory health and the correct use of certain inhalers.

Using these devices properly can be especially important for people living with chronic respiratory conditions.

The Bazar aims to use a practical format to explain simple techniques and correct common mistakes.

Diabetes and chronic conditions

Chronic illnesses are part of everyday life for thousands of people.

Diabetes, respiratory diseases, cardiovascular problems and other conditions require follow-up and, in many cases, active involvement from the patient.

One of the stands will focus specifically on how to live better with these conditions and how to recognise certain warning signs.

Health education plays a major role in this area because much of the care takes place outside hospitals and health centres.

How much sugar do we really consume?

Nutrition will be another major theme of the event.

Visitors will be able to see in a visual way how much sugar is contained in some commonly consumed products.

Drinks, processed foods and other everyday items can contain amounts of sugar that often go unnoticed unless their nutritional information is checked carefully.

The aim is not to turn the activity into a nutritional consultation, but to help people better understand certain consumption habits.

Vaping, alcohol and energy drinks

The Bazar will also focus on habits that are particularly common among teenagers and young adults.

There will be information on the prevention of vaping, alcohol consumption and energy drinks.

The subject will be approached from a preventive perspective, explaining possible consequences and providing tools for making more informed choices.

This makes the event particularly relevant for families with teenagers.

Bullying and cyberbullying

Health is not limited to physical wellbeing.

The programme will also address bullying and cyberbullying.

The widespread use of social media and digital devices means that conflicts between young people can continue outside school and remain present throughout much of the day.

Learning how to identify these situations and knowing when to seek help are some of the issues that can be explored during the event.

Helping to care for a dependent person

Many families become carers without ever having received specific training.

Moving a dependent person, helping with daily activities or protecting the carer’s own health can raise many questions.

The Bazar will include content related to care for dependent people.

The aim is to offer practical guidance that can make everyday care at home easier.

Active ageing

Older people will also have a dedicated space within the programme.

Active ageing focuses on maintaining habits that help preserve independence, mobility and social participation as people grow older.

Adapted physical activity, prevention, nutrition and management of chronic conditions all form part of an approach to health that aims to act before larger problems appear.

The event is designed to bring this information both to older people and to their families.

Supporting people during illness

Nursing is not limited to carrying out medical procedures.

Another essential part of the profession is supporting patients and their families during illness.

The Bazar will include content connected to this less visible side of care.

Listening, informing, helping people understand a health process and providing support are also fundamental parts of nursing.

Military Nursing will also be represented

The day will also offer an opportunity to discover less well-known areas of the profession.

One of them is Military Nursing.

Visitors will be able to learn about the work carried out by these professionals in contexts such as humanitarian missions and other situations where healthcare must be provided outside conventional hospital settings.

It is an opportunity to show the range of roles and professional pathways available within nursing.

Solidaridad Enfermera

The programme will also highlight Solidaridad Enfermera, an initiative linked to social projects and actions aimed at improving access to care and health education.

The presence of projects of this kind broadens the event beyond individual prevention.

Health is also closely linked to social circumstances and to whether people can access reliable health information.

A Pasaporte de los Cuidados to explore the stands

To make the experience more interactive, visitors will be able to collect a Pasaporte de los Cuidados.

The idea is to encourage people to move through the different areas and take part in activities across all 14 stands.

The format turns the visit into a journey through different aspects of health and allows each person to focus on the subjects most relevant to them.

There will also be some surprises throughout the morning.

An event for all ages

The event is not aimed only at people with an existing health condition.

Activities are designed for children, teenagers, young adults, adults, older people, relatives and carers.

A family may come to learn first aid, while an older person can ask questions about healthy ageing and a teenager can take part in activities related to vaping or energy drinks.

The range of topics is one of the main strengths of the event.

Cuidamos Málaga, one of the new features this year

The fifth edition will also be used to present Cuidamos Málaga, a new platform promoted by the Málaga Official College of Nursing.

The website has been created to continue throughout the year the health education work carried out by the Bazar during a single morning.

Users will be able to find content prepared by nursing professionals on prevention, wellbeing, first aid, nutrition, vaccination and different stages of life.

It will also include resources such as infographics, videos, frequently asked questions and downloadable materials.

Reliable health information in an age of misinformation

The launch of a platform like this also responds to an increasingly visible problem.

The internet provides access to enormous amounts of health information, but not all of it is equally reliable.

Social media, videos and online posts can mix scientific recommendations with advice that has no professional basis.

Cuidamos Málaga aims to become a space where the public can find information explained clearly and prepared by healthcare professionals.

An initiative that began in 2022

The Bazar de los Cuidados was first launched in 2022, coinciding with the 125th anniversary of the Málaga Official College of Nursing.

The first edition took place in Plaza de la Merced and featured ten stands.

Since then, the initiative has continued to grow.

By 2024, the third edition already had 14 themed stands and expanded its content to cover different stages of life.

The fourth edition, held in 2025 on the El Corte Inglés esplanade, once again attracted hundreds of people.

Five editions bringing nursing into the streets

The 2026 edition consolidates a format that aims to take healthcare knowledge outside consulting rooms, hospitals and health centres.

The idea is simple: many decisions affecting health are made precisely when no healthcare professional is present.

Choosing what to eat, responding to an emergency, deciding when a symptom is worrying or caring correctly for a relative are all everyday situations.

Providing tools to make better decisions is part of prevention.

A free morning in central Málaga

The V Bazar de los Cuidados will take place on Saturday 3 October 2026, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The venue will be the El Corte Inglés esplanade on Avenida de Andalucía, in Málaga city.

Entry will be free and no advance registration will be necessary.

Thanks to its central location, it can also be an easy family plan for anyone spending Saturday morning in the city.

Date, time and location

Date: Saturday 3 October 2026.

Time: 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Location: El Corte Inglés esplanade, Avenida de Andalucía, Málaga.

A chance to learn before the knowledge is needed

One of the most valuable aspects of the Bazar is that much of the information on offer can be learned before a problem occurs.

No one knows when they may need to perform CPR, help a dependent relative or recognise a warning sign.

Having some basic knowledge in advance can make a real difference when that moment arrives.

This Saturday, Málaga’s nursing professionals will once again take healthcare into the streets with that goal: making prevention and self-care knowledge accessible to everyone.
