Casa Pepa: The Carratraca Inn Serving Home-Style Food for €14

Founded in 1961, Casa Pepa preserves its traditional dining room, a surprise menu featuring Málaga recipes and five guest rooms. Food is placed in the centre of the table, and diners can help themselves to additional servings.

A Family-Run Inn with More Than Six Decades of History

In the centre of Carratraca, Casa Pepa maintains an approach to hospitality that has changed very little in more than sixty years. The establishment opened in 1961 as a small inn for people visiting the town to experience its thermal waters.

Its founder, Pepa Baeza, initially offered five rooms, a small kitchen and a shared bathroom. Her experience as a cook later led her to prepare meals for workers staying in Carratraca during the construction of the town’s drinking-water supply.

Following the founder’s death, the family continued running the business. Dori Sánchez is currently in charge of a house that has preserved its simplicity, recipes and much of its original decoration.

A €14 Surprise Menu

Casa Pepa does not operate like a conventional restaurant. There is no fixed menu from which to choose, as customers eat whatever dishes have been prepared that day.

The menu costs €14 and includes a selection of starters and main courses accompanied by red wine and soda. Food is placed in the centre of the table for everyone to share, allowing each person to serve themselves and return for more.

Regular dishes include Málaga-style gazpachuelo, meat and vegetable soup, chickpea stew, noodle casserole, cocido and Rioja-style potatoes. Meatballs in sauce, braised pork cheeks, pork with tomato, chicken wings or chorizo with potatoes and fried eggs may also be served.

One of the most representative dishes is gazpachuelo, prepared with potatoes, rice, egg and mayonnaise. The soup reaches the table in a large tureen so diners can serve themselves directly.

A Dining Room Preserving Its Original Appearance

The Casa Pepa experience is also shaped by its dining room. Checked tablecloths, traditional glasses, a pendulum clock and family photographs preserve the appearance of a traditional home.

Its walls display memories from different generations and photographs of several well-known visitors. Antonio Banderas, Karlos Arguiñano and Jesús Quintero are among those who have visited the inn.

The family also remembers a visit by the then Prince Charles of England, now King Charles III. According to their account, he arrived like any other customer and was not recognised during his visit.

Five Guest Rooms in Carratraca

Casa Pepa retains the five guest rooms with which it began operating, although all now have private bathrooms and are equipped to receive visitors. They are arranged around an interior courtyard and retain details inspired by traditional Andalusia.

Its location makes it possible to combine the dining experience with a visit to Carratraca and other nearby destinations. The Caminito del Rey, Ardales and the El Chorro natural area are among the places within easy reach of the town.

Casa Pepa Opening Hours and Location

The inn is located at 18 Calle Baños in Carratraca. The dining room opens from Monday to Friday between 1:30 and 4:00 p.m., while service continues until 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Access is organised on a first-come, first-served basis. Although tables are not assigned through a conventional reservation system, the establishment recommends calling before visiting to check availability and ensure the best possible service.
