Marbella once again features prominently in the 2026 MICHELIN Key selection, reinforcing its position as one of Spain’s leading destinations for high-end hospitality. Four hotels in Marbella and the surrounding area have been recognised this year, reflecting the strength and diversity of the luxury accommodation sector on the Costa del Sol.

Marbella Club Hotel holds the highest distinction in the area with two MICHELIN Keys.

It is joined by three hotels with one MICHELIN Key: Anantara Villa Padierna Palace Benahavís Marbella Resort, La Fonda Heritage Hotel and Gran Marbella Resort & Beach Club, which appears as a new addition to the 2026 selection.

MICHELIN Keys are the hotel equivalent of the guide’s famous restaurant stars and recognise properties that stand out for the overall experience they offer guests.

Marbella Club Hotel holds two MICHELIN Keys

Marbella Club Hotel is the only property linked to Marbella to appear in the two MICHELIN Key category in Spain’s 2026 selection.

The distinction places the historic hotel among a relatively small group of Spanish properties recognised at this level.

Founded in 1954 by Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe, Marbella Club has played a major role in the development of Marbella as an international luxury destination.

Its offer combines Mediterranean gardens, villas, rooms and suites with an extensive range of restaurants, wellness facilities and activities.

Despite the transformation Marbella has undergone over the decades, the hotel has maintained much of the discreet, residential atmosphere that characterised its early years.

The MICHELIN Guide itself highlights this sense of a private residence rather than a conventional hotel.

What do two MICHELIN Keys mean?

The MICHELIN hotel system has three levels of distinction.

One Key recognises a very special stay within its category.

Two Keys represent a higher level and are awarded to hotels offering an exceptional experience.

Three Keys are the highest distinction.

Marbella Club is one of the 17 hotels in Spain with two MICHELIN Keys in 2026, a category that also includes some of the country’s most prestigious properties in destinations such as Madrid, Mallorca, Barcelona and San Sebastián.

Gran Marbella Resort & Beach Club is the big new addition for 2026

One of the main changes for Marbella this year is the arrival of Gran Marbella Resort & Beach Club in the selection.

The property receives one MICHELIN Key in 2026, making it one of the new additions to Spain’s distinguished hotel list.

Located near Real de Zaragoza Beach, the resort offers a quieter interpretation of Marbella luxury, away from the busiest areas around Puerto Banús and the Golden Mile.

The hotel has 135 rooms and suites, many with views of the sea, mountains or gardens.

Its concept combines accommodation, gastronomy, beach access and wellness within the same resort.

Rooms with private pools and Mediterranean views

Gran Marbella Resort & Beach Club draws on Mediterranean and Andalusian influences in its architecture and design.

Some room and suite categories include features such as private pools or jacuzzis.

The property is surrounded by landscaped gardens and lies just a short distance from the Mediterranean.

Its inclusion in the MICHELIN Key selection comes at a time when Marbella continues to expand and renew its five-star hotel sector.

The resort’s recognition also shows that new openings are beginning to establish themselves alongside historic hotels that have been associated with the destination for decades.

A spa linked to a major British wellness brand

Wellness is one of the central pillars of Gran Marbella Resort & Beach Club.

The hotel features Spa by Champneys, associated with one of the United Kingdom’s best-known wellness brands.

Facilities include a large indoor pool, outdoor pool, jacuzzi, hammam and cold-water pool.

The spa also offers a range of treatments and relaxation spaces.

This focus on wellbeing fits with Marbella’s broader shift towards a tourism model that increasingly combines luxury accommodation with health, sport and experiences.

A beach club by the sea

The resort also features Amù Beach Club, located next to the beach.

The venue extends the guest experience beyond the rooms by combining dining with direct access to the Mediterranean.

Having a beach club has become a well-established feature within Marbella’s high-end tourism sector, with many luxury hotels incorporating seafront dining and leisure spaces.

Gran Marbella, however, positions itself around a more relaxed and quieter atmosphere.

Anantara Villa Padierna keeps one MICHELIN Key

Another recognised hotel is Anantara Villa Padierna Palace Benahavís Marbella Resort, which retains one MICHELIN Key.

Although it is administratively located in the Benahavís area, the MICHELIN Guide includes it within its Marbella and surrounding destination selection.

The resort has around 125 rooms and lies just a short distance from the coast, surrounded by golf courses.

Its architecture takes inspiration from grand Italian villas, while the interior houses an extensive art collection.

A resort centred on golf, art and wellness

One of the defining features of Anantara Villa Padierna is the scale of its facilities.

The resort includes three 18-hole golf courses, a tennis club, restaurants and several wellness spaces.

Its spa covers more than 2,000 square metres and includes facilities inspired by different thermal traditions.

The resort also features a collection of more than a thousand works of art displayed throughout the property.

Together, these elements create an experience closer to a fully integrated resort than a hotel focused only on accommodation.

La Fonda Heritage holds one Key in Marbella’s Old Town

The selection also includes La Fonda Heritage Hotel, which retains one MICHELIN Key.

Its concept is very different from Marbella’s large resorts.

The hotel is located in the Old Town and occupies several historic buildings dating back to the Renaissance period.

La Fonda Heritage has restored part of Marbella’s hotel and social history, combining traditional architectural features with contemporary design.

A hotel set inside 16th-century buildings

La Fonda Heritage occupies three historic 16th-century buildings arranged around internal courtyards.

Columns, stone arches, frescoes and other original architectural details are combined with a renovation designed to meet the expectations of a modern boutique hotel.

The property has around 20 rooms, placing it in a completely different segment from the large coastal resorts.

The MICHELIN Guide particularly highlights this combination of historic character and contemporary comfort.

From large resorts to boutique hotels

Marbella’s selection is particularly notable for the variety of hotel styles represented.

Marbella Club symbolises the origins of international luxury tourism in the city.

Anantara Villa Padierna offers a large inland resort focused on golf, art and wellness.

Gran Marbella Resort & Beach Club represents a new generation of five-star coastal resorts.

La Fonda Heritage, meanwhile, provides a much smaller experience connected directly to the historic centre.

Four different concepts share the same international recognition.

What are MICHELIN Keys?

MICHELIN Keys were created to distinguish the most outstanding hotels within the guide’s accommodation selection.

They are not awarded simply because a hotel has five stars or belongs to the luxury category.

Inspectors assess several aspects of the guest experience.

These include architecture and interior design, the personality of the property, the quality and consistency of service, value for the experience offered and the hotel’s ability to reflect its surroundings.

The assessment is independent of each country’s official hotel classification system.

The hotel equivalent of MICHELIN Stars

The aim of the system is to bring to hotels a model similar to the one MICHELIN has used in gastronomy for decades.

While MICHELIN Stars recognise restaurants, MICHELIN Keys focus exclusively on hotels.

The scale is divided into one, two and three Keys.

Three Keys represent the highest distinction and recognise hotel experiences considered extraordinary on an international level.

In Spain, only five hotels achieve three MICHELIN Keys in the 2026 selection.

Spain now has 122 MICHELIN Key hotels

The 2026 edition includes 122 hotels in Spain with MICHELIN Keys.

Of these:

5 hotels have three MICHELIN Keys.

17 hotels have two MICHELIN Keys.

100 hotels have one MICHELIN Key.

The 2026 selection also includes a number of new additions across the country.

Gran Marbella Resort & Beach Club is one of the new names joining the list this year.

Marbella stands out within Andalusia

The presence of four recognised hotels in Marbella and its surrounding area reinforces the destination’s importance within Andalusia’s high-end hotel sector.

Other recognised properties can also be found elsewhere in Málaga province and nearby destinations.

La Zambra Resort, in Mijas, also holds one Key, while Finca La Donaira, in Montecorto, appears as a new addition.

Further west, Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol, in San Roque, also features in the one-Key category.

The selection therefore shows a strong corridor of high-end hotels across the Costa del Sol and surrounding areas.

Marbella strengthens its position as an international hotel destination

The recognitions arrive at a particularly active time for Marbella’s hotel sector.

The city is seeing new openings, major renovations of historic hotels and the arrival of international brands.

This transformation is accompanied by growing demand for experiences linked to wellness, gastronomy, golf, shopping and luxury travel.

MICHELIN Keys provide another layer of international visibility for a destination that has long competed with some of the Mediterranean’s leading luxury resorts.

Which Marbella hotels have MICHELIN Keys in 2026?

The selection is as follows:

Two MICHELIN Keys: Marbella Club Hotel.

One MICHELIN Key: Anantara Villa Padierna Palace Benahavís Marbella Resort.

One MICHELIN Key: Gran Marbella Resort & Beach Club — new in 2026.

One MICHELIN Key: La Fonda Heritage Hotel.

The addition of Gran Marbella Resort & Beach Club is the main change compared with the previous selection.

Four different ways to experience Marbella

Beyond the recognition itself, the list also shows how much Marbella’s luxury tourism sector has evolved.

Luxury no longer follows a single formula.

It can mean staying at a large resort with decades of history, sleeping surrounded by golf courses, choosing a boutique hotel inside 16th-century buildings or spending a few days beside one of Marbella’s quieter beaches.

The 2026 MICHELIN selection reflects exactly that diversity.

And with four distinguished hotels in Marbella and the surrounding area, the destination once again places itself firmly on the map of Spain’s leading hotel markets.
