Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport is heading into the autumn and winter season with more options for travelling across Europe. Several airlines are expanding their schedules for the coming months, adding direct routes from Málaga to destinations including Trieste, Venice, Hamburg, Katowice, Zurich and Edinburgh.

The seasonal change also means that some summer-only services will pause until 2027, so Málaga’s route map is once again adapting to demand during the colder months.

According to the winter programme, the airport will maintain a broad international network and continue to strengthen its position as one of southern Spain’s main gateways.

Ryanair adds six winter routes

One of the biggest expansions comes from Ryanair.

The airline has announced six new connections as part of its 2026-2027 winter schedule from Málaga.

The new routes are:

  • Trieste, with two weekly flights;
  • Venice Marco Polo, with four weekly flights;
  • Turin, with four weekly flights;
  • Katowice, with two weekly flights;
  • Košice, with two weekly flights;
  • Hamburg, with two weekly flights.

The programme particularly strengthens links with Italy, Central Europe and Germany.

Italy gains more direct connections

Three of Ryanair’s six additions are in Italy.

Trieste will provide a direct connection with the north-east of the country, close to the Slovenian border.

Venice adds a route to Marco Polo Airport, while Turin increases direct options for travelling to northern Italy.

Ryanair plans to operate a total of 82 routes from Málaga this winter, while also increasing frequencies on several existing services.

More options for Poland and Slovakia

Central and Eastern Europe continue to gain importance within Málaga Airport’s network.

Katowice, in Poland, will have two weekly flights during the winter season.

The connection with Košice, in Slovakia, will also continue.

The route had already started during the summer season, but its extension into winter gives passengers another year-round option in this part of Europe.

Hamburg strengthens the German network

Germany remains one of Málaga’s most important international markets.

Ryanair’s winter programme adds two weekly flights to Hamburg, expanding an already extensive network linking the Costa del Sol with German cities.

Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Cologne, Bremen and Stuttgart are also among the destinations commonly connected with Málaga.

More than 3.4 million Ryanair seats

The expansion goes beyond the new routes.

Ryanair plans to offer more than 3.4 million seats to and from Málaga during the winter season, running from late October 2026 to late March 2027.

That represents more than 92,000 additional seats compared with the previous winter.

The airline will also increase frequencies on 31 existing routes, including services to Rome, Cologne, Porto, Kraków and Budapest.

easyJet is also expanding from Málaga

easyJet is another airline adding new connections from Málaga over the coming months.

Among the destinations announced are Zurich, Bordeaux, Edinburgh and Newcastle.

The airline has also included Biarritz among its new Málaga routes for the 2026-2027 programme, although exact operating dates may vary depending on the destination.

Zurich is one of the first new routes

The connection with Zurich begins during October.

The route adds another direct option to one of Switzerland’s main economic and financial centres.

Geneva and Basel are also already part of Málaga’s regular connectivity with Switzerland.

Bordeaux strengthens links with France

France is another market gaining additional service.

easyJet is adding Bordeaux to its Málaga network for the season.

The south-western French city joins a wider range of routes that commonly includes Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse, Nantes and Nice.

For people living on the Costa del Sol, it provides another direct option for weekend breaks or travel during autumn and winter public holidays.

More options for travelling to the UK

The United Kingdom remains one of the countries with the strongest air links to Málaga.

easyJet will add further options with Edinburgh and Newcastle, reinforcing an already extensive British network.

London is served through several airports, while Málaga also has routes to cities such as Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Liverpool and Glasgow.

The large British resident population on the Costa del Sol helps support many of these services throughout much of the year.

Some summer routes will pause

The start of the winter schedule also means the temporary end of some seasonal services.

One of the most notable is the direct connection between Málaga and New York.

The route operated during spring and summer 2026 but is not part of the regular winter schedule.

A similar situation applies to some long-haul connections to the Middle East.

Fewer flights do not always mean a route disappears

During winter, some routes simply operate less frequently.

This is particularly common on destinations with demand strongly linked to summer tourism.

Services to Iceland, for example, are expected to reduce frequencies as November progresses.

It is therefore important to distinguish between a route being suspended completely and one simply operating fewer days each week.

Málaga maintains a broad domestic network

Within Spain, Málaga remains connected to numerous airports on the mainland and the islands.

Key destinations include:

Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Valencia, Santiago de Compostela, Asturias, Santander, San Sebastián, Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.

Connections with Ceuta and Melilla are also maintained.

These routes link Málaga with most of Spain’s main domestic markets.

Europe continues to dominate the route map

Most international connections remain concentrated in Europe.

The United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands and the Nordic countries all have particularly strong coverage.

Málaga also maintains services to cities in Belgium, Austria, Ireland, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, the Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Portugal and Switzerland, among other markets.

Morocco and the Middle East complete the network

Outside Europe, Morocco continues to have an important presence.

Málaga commonly offers direct flights to cities including Casablanca, Marrakech, Fez, Rabat, Tangier and Tetouan.

Longer-haul connections to destinations such as Doha and Abu Dhabi also extend onward travel possibilities towards Asia and other international markets.

A route network that changes with the seasons

Málaga Airport’s list of destinations is not completely fixed.

Airlines adjust their schedules depending on the time of year, demand and aircraft availability.

Some cities therefore appear only in summer, others are added for winter, while several routes operate with different frequencies depending on the season.

Aena also notes that airline schedules can be subject to change.

More options for autumn and winter breaks

The new routes arrive at a useful time for travellers looking to get away outside the summer high season.

The coming months include several public holidays and long weekends, while many European cities change their tourism offering significantly during the Christmas and winter period.

Destinations such as Venice, Turin, Hamburg, Zurich and Edinburgh now become easier to reach directly from the Costa del Sol.

For Málaga residents, this means more travel options without having to connect through Madrid, Barcelona or another major European airport.

Málaga strengthens its role as a major year-round international airport

The expansion of winter routes confirms a trend that goes beyond purely seasonal tourism.

Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport continues to maintain high levels of activity outside the summer months.

The new Ryanair and easyJet connections further expand the European network and help sustain international visitor arrivals during autumn and winter.

At the same time, they give people living in Málaga and along the Costa del Sol a broader range of direct travel options throughout the year.
