Torremolinos welcomes Ruta 091: a five-kilometre seaside charity race

Running five kilometres along Torremolinos’ seafront on 30 October will have a purpose that goes far beyond crossing the finish line. The town is joining the Policía Nacional’s Ruta 091 charity race circuit for the first time, combining sport with fundraising for a local social cause.

The first Torremolinos edition will take place on Friday, 30 October 2026, with Cruz Roja Torremolinos chosen as the beneficiary.

The event will include a race of just over five kilometres for adults, as well as two shorter events for children and younger runners. A maximum of 1,000 participants will be accepted across all categories.

When is Ruta 091 Torremolinos taking place?

The event will be held during the afternoon of 30 October.

The children’s races will take place first, followed by the main event:

• 6:00 pm: 200-metre race for children aged 4 to 9
• 6:15 pm: 400-metre race for participants aged 10 to 13
• Around 6:30 pm: start of the adult race, open to runners aged 14 and over

The main race will have a maximum completion time of one hour, while the children’s events will have shorter time limits.

A 5-kilometre route between Los Álamos and Playamar

The seafront will be the main setting for the event.

The adult race will cover an official distance of 5.09 kilometres, with both the start and finish located on the Torremolinos seafront promenade, near the El Galeón parking area, opposite Chiringuito Mari y Sergio.

From there, runners will head through the Los Álamos and Playamar areas.

The route will continue towards Plaza de las Comunidades Autónomas, where participants will turn around before heading back along the promenade to the finish line.

It will therefore be a circular route running almost entirely alongside the Mediterranean.

Children will also race along the seafront

Younger runners will share the same general setting as the adults, but over much shorter distances.

Children aged 4 to 9 will run 200 metres from 6:00 pm, while those aged 10 to 13 will complete a 400-metre course starting at 6:15 pm.

Both races will start and finish in the same area of the seafront promenade.

The adult category is also open to participants aged 14 to 17, although parental or guardian authorisation will be required. Organisers also recommend that minors are accompanied by an adult.

How much does it cost to register?

Registration is available through the official Ruta 091 website.

The prices are:

• €13 for adults
• €10 for children aged 4 to 13

Management fees are included in the price.

The organisers have set aside a maximum of 750 places for adults and 250 for children, bringing the overall limit to 1,000 participants.

Registration will remain open until 12:00 noon on 26 October 2026, unless all places are filled before then.

Once the maximum number of participants has been reached, no further entries will be accepted.

Runners will receive a commemorative technical T-shirt

Registration includes a commemorative technical T-shirt, with participants required to select their size when completing their entry.

The organisers warn that T-shirt sizes cannot be changed afterwards.

The shirt will be included with the race number and the rest of the participant pack.

You can also support the event without running

Taking part in the race is not the only way to contribute.

The organisers have also introduced a “Dorsal 0”, or solidarity race number, for anyone who wants to make a financial contribution without physically taking part in the event.

Supporters can donate the amount they choose.

The solidarity entry does not include a T-shirt, as it works exclusively as a donation.

All proceeds will go to Cruz Roja Torremolinos

The charitable element is one of the central features of Ruta 091.

For this first edition in Torremolinos, all proceeds will be donated to Cruz Roja Torremolinos.

The initiative is designed to turn participation in a popular sporting event into direct support for the organisation’s work in the municipality.

What is Ruta 091?

Although this will be the first edition held in Torremolinos, Ruta 091 has been organised in different parts of Spain for several years.

The initiative was launched by the Policía Nacional in 2017 and has since developed into a nationwide calendar of charity races.

Each event supports a different social organisation or cause connected to the city where the race is held.

According to the Policía Nacional, the races held in 2023 alone raised around €260,000 for charitable causes, including projects linked to disability, illness, childhood support and social assistance.

The race poster also has a Torremolinos identity

The first edition of Ruta 091 in Torremolinos also has a strong local visual identity.

The official poster has been designed by artist Laura Porporatto.

Her artwork includes one of the town’s most recognisable landmarks, the Casa de los Navajas, alongside images of Policía Nacional officers.

The event was officially presented on 23 September with the participation of Torremolinos mayor Margarita del Cid, local police representatives, the councillor for Sports, Cruz Roja representatives and the artist herself.
