12 October: A Public Holiday Across the Costa del Sol

Spain’s National Day will be celebrated on Monday, 12 October. It is a public holiday throughout the Costa del Sol and creates a three-day weekend for people who do not usually work on Saturdays and Sundays.

Government offices, schools, banks and many workplaces will be closed. Hotels, restaurants, visitor attractions and some shops may remain open, particularly in popular tourist areas.

Local Holidays in October

Several municipalities will also observe their own local holidays:

• 2 October: Torrox and Vélez-Málaga.
• 7 October: Fuengirola and Benahavís.
• 8 and 9 October: Ojén.
• 12 October: the entire Costa del Sol.
• 15 October: Mijas.
• 19 October: Marbella.

In Fuengirola, the local holiday on 7 October coincides with the feast of Nuestra Señora del Rosario Coronada and forms part of the town’s annual fair.

Mijas observes a local holiday on 15 October in connection with Santa Teresa, the patron saint of La Cala de Mijas. Marbella’s holiday on 19 October coincides with the final day of the San Pedro Alcántara Fair, which will run from 13 to 19 October.

Málaga city, Benalmádena, Torremolinos, Estepona, Casares, Manilva, Rincón de la Victoria and Nerja have no local public holidays during October 2026. In these municipalities, 12 October will be the month’s only official holiday.

Visitors should check opening times before travelling. Public services generally close on official holidays, while hospitality businesses, tourist attractions and some shops may follow their usual schedules or operate with reduced hours.
