‘Sharing Cultures’ returns to Estepona: Italy, the UK and Ukraine lead the first autumn celebrations

Travelling through Italy, the United Kingdom and Ukraine without leaving Estepona will be possible this September. The town is launching the third edition of ‘Sharing Cultures’, a municipal programme that turns Estepona’s international diversity into a calendar of events open to both residents and visitors.

The first autumn celebrations will take place on the seafront promenade, next to the Peseta Monument, and will focus on the Italian, British and Ukrainian communities.

Music, food, markets, crafts, dance and cultural activities will offer visitors the chance to discover different traditions in a relaxed, open-air setting by the Mediterranean.

Italy opens the programme on 19 September

The first event will be Italian Culture Day, taking place on Saturday, 19 September.

From 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, the seafront will host a programme inspired by one of Europe’s most influential cultures.

The afternoon and evening will feature live music, cultural activities and Italian food, making it an easy plan for anyone looking to enjoy something different by the sea.

It will mark the beginning of a programme that will continue over the following weekends.

British Day comes to Estepona on 26 September

One week later, the focus will shift to the British community.

On Saturday, 26 September, also from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, Estepona will celebrate British Day.

The programme will include live music, dance performances, food stalls and a market, offering visitors a taste of different aspects of British culture.

The event has particular relevance in Estepona and across the Costa del Sol, where the British community has long formed an important part of local life.

Ukrainian food, crafts and music on 27 September

The final September event will be Ukraine Day, scheduled for Sunday, 27 September.

Activities will run from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm and will include a craft market, masterclasses, traditional food and cultural activities.

One of the highlights will be a gala concert featuring Ukrainian artists and groups based on the Costa del Sol, giving visibility to the music, talent and traditions of the local Ukrainian community.

A town home to 135 nationalities

‘Sharing Cultures’ reflects one of Estepona’s defining characteristics: its strongly international population.

People from 135 different nationalities currently live in the municipality, while foreign residents account for around 32% of those officially registered in the town.

The programme is built around that reality.

Rather than simply celebrating diversity in an abstract way, each event gives the public the chance to experience the food, music, customs and cultural expressions of the different communities that have made Estepona their home.

Local foreign residents’ associations and community groups are also directly involved in organising the celebrations.

The programme will continue throughout the autumn with further celebrations dedicated to other nationalities represented in Estepona, with new dates and activities to be announced progressively.
