The Wonderful West End comes to Fuengirola as Mike Sterling returns to the Salon Varietes
The Salon Varietes Theatre opens its new season on 11 and 12 September 2026 with a journey through six decades of musical theatre, from The Phantom of the Opera and Les Misérables to Hamilton, Wicked and West Side Story.
London’s West End is coming to Fuengirola this weekend. Singer and actor Mike Sterling returns to the Salon Varietes Theatre on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 September 2026 with The Wonderful West End, a show celebrating some of the most recognisable songs in musical theatre history.
Both performances will begin at 7:30 pm and will help launch the new season at Fuengirola’s well-known English-language theatre.
Sterling returns following the success of his previous appearance, this time taking audiences on a musical journey spanning around 60 years of West End productions.
From The Phantom of the Opera to Hamilton
The programme brings together songs from very different eras of musical theatre.
Audiences can expect numbers associated with productions including The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, Evita, Hamilton, Wicked and West Side Story.
Rather than presenting one complete musical, the show is designed as a celebration of the West End, bringing together memorable songs, theatrical moments, singing and dance in a single evening.
The result is a programme combining long-running classics with more recent productions that have introduced musical theatre to new generations.
Mike Sterling returns to a repertoire he knows well
One of the main attractions is Sterling’s own connection with some of the musicals featured in the show.
Mike Sterling has almost four decades of professional stage experience and has performed some of the most demanding leading roles in British musical theatre.
He is particularly known for playing the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera more than 1,000 times, while he has also appeared as Jean Valjean in Les Misérables.
His return to Fuengirola therefore gives audiences the chance to hear songs from productions that have played a major part in his own career.
Just two performances in Fuengirola
The Wonderful West End will be staged for two nights only:
- Friday, 11 September 2026: 7:30 pm
- Saturday, 12 September 2026: 7:30 pm
The performances will take place at the Salon Varietes Theatre, located on Calle Emancipación in central Fuengirola, close to Plaza de la Constitución.
The venue has long been an important cultural meeting point for the English-speaking community on the Costa del Sol and regularly hosts theatre, music and musical productions.
How to get tickets
Tickets can be purchased through the theatre’s website or directly from the box office.
The box office is open Monday to Friday from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm, as well as for one hour before each performance.
The theatre provides wheelchair access, although accessible seating must be booked directly through the box office rather than online.
Families should also note that children under five are not permitted inside the auditorium, while older children require their own ticket and must be accompanied by an adult.
A night of West End musicals on the Costa del Sol
For musical theatre fans, the show offers the chance to hear music from some of London’s most famous productions without leaving the Costa del Sol.
From the drama of Les Misérables and The Phantom of the Opera to the very different worlds of Wicked and Hamilton, the programme aims to condense several generations of West End history into one evening.
With only two performances scheduled, The Wonderful West End will also be one of the first major theatre events of September in Fuengirola, marking the beginning of a new season at the Salon Varietes.
Tickets, access information and upcoming performances can be found on the official Salon Varietes Theatre programme.
