Estepona celebrates Tourist Day with flamenco yoga, carnations and a tribute to its most loyal visitors

Estepona will once again pay tribute to the people who choose the town as their holiday destination. The local council will celebrate Tourist Day on Friday, 7 August, with a programme designed to thank visitors for their loyalty and strengthen their connection with the town.

The day will combine traditional activities with new experiences in several locations around the town centre. Highlights include a free yoga session accompanied by live flamenco guitar, the presentation of the 2026 Honorary Tourist Award and the traditional distribution of carnations by the queens and ladies of the town’s main fair and festivities.

The programme will begin at 9 am on the seafront promenade, close to the La Menina sculpture.

One of this year’s main new features will be a free yoga session accompanied by live flamenco guitar. The activity will combine exercise, relaxation and music in an open-air setting overlooking the Mediterranean.

With this initiative, Estepona Town Council aims to introduce wellbeing and healthy living into a celebration traditionally associated with tourism promotion.

Deputy Mayor for Development, Infrastructure and Tourism Ana Velasco explained that the activity forms part of the council’s commitment to improving wellbeing and encouraging healthier lifestyles.

Recognition for decades of loyalty

The programme will continue at 12 noon with the presentation of the 2026 Honorary Tourist Award to Pedro Javier Rodríguez Pérez and Paula Medina Denja.

The town council will recognise the close relationship they have maintained with Estepona for several decades. The tribute is intended to represent all those visitors who return year after year and develop a lasting personal connection with the town.

Choosing an honorary tourist is one of the most symbolic moments of the celebration, as it recognises people who see Estepona not simply as a one-off destination, but as a place they return to and feel connected with.

Carnations as a gesture of thanks

After the award ceremony, the queens and ladies of Estepona’s main fair and festivities will take part in the traditional distribution of carnations among visitors.

The group will visit some of the busiest areas of the town centre, including Calle Real, Calle Terraza, Plaza de las Flores, Plaza Doctor Arce and the seafront promenade.

The flowers will serve as a symbolic gesture of welcome and gratitude to those spending their holidays in Estepona.

This initiative combines local hospitality with tradition and brings the celebration directly into the streets, shops and public areas used by residents and visitors.

Tourist information in several languages

During the day, Estepona Town Council will also install an outdoor information point beside the Tourist Office in Plaza de las Flores.

Leaflets will be distributed in several languages to promote the town’s cultural, sporting and leisure offering. Visitors will be able to find information about monuments, routes, activities and attractions that complement a stay beyond the beaches.

The aim is to help tourists discover more of Estepona’s diversity, including its historic centre, cultural programme, sports facilities and entertainment options.

A day celebrating Estepona’s hospitality

Tourist Day combines promotion, recognition and public participation in a programme aimed both at first-time visitors and those who return every summer.

With the addition of flamenco yoga, a tribute to loyal visitors and the traditional distribution of carnations, Estepona hopes to offer a warm welcome and show that hospitality remains an essential part of its tourism identity.
