La Lupi, a Master of Flamenco Dance in the Classroom and Onstage

She is a master of flamenco, an artist with deep roots who has over 25 years of dancing experience, both on stage and in the classroom, giving lessons in the profound art of flamenco. At 54, La Lupi is not yet ready to step down from the stage, but she is preparing for her eventual retirement. Last July, the dancer and choreographer premiered "Lo inédito" at the Málaga Flamenco Art Biennial, which she describes as "one of the last" shows she will star in.

"Everything hurts now. And after all, it's the law of life. Young people are coming up, looking for their place, their space, and I see it as normal. I don't view it with pain or frustration, but with much naturalness. There will come a time when I will dedicate myself more to teaching, which is also my passion," declared Susana Lupiáñez (Málaga, 1971) in a candid interview with this newspaper.

For years, the woman from Málaga has traveled the world from one end to the other, giving courses, and even had her own school until 2013. "70% of the people in Málaga who dance professionally were either my students or have passed through the school at some point," she notes. With five herniated discs and many injections to keep dancing, La Lupi sees her near future in teaching, choreography, and direction. And she likes it. "I won't feel like I've closed the chapter of my life as an artist. I will be an artist until I die, because I am more of an artist than a dancer," she asserts.
