Plans to celebrate Halloween 2026 in Malaga and along the Costa del Sol have changed following the declaration of three days of official mourning after the train accident in the province of Toledo.

The situation varies across Malaga province. Some councils have cancelled their entire Halloween programme, while others have postponed their celebrations until Sunday, 1 November, after the official mourning period ends.

This information was last updated on Friday, 30 October 2026. Anyone planning to attend an event should check the latest announcement from the relevant council or organiser before travelling, particularly in the case of privately organised parties.

Malaga City cancels all municipal Halloween events

Malaga City Council has cancelled every event organised by the council or due to take place at municipal facilities during Halloween.

The decision affects activities scheduled across the city’s districts, including children’s parties, costume contests, street parades, themed performances and haunted houses.

The cancelled events include:

  • Malaga East: “Terror en el Este” at the Alberto Suárez ‘Pipi’ Gardens and inside the Curro Román Auditorium in Playa Virginia, as well as the haunted attraction in Playa Virginia Park.
  • Ciudad Jardín: the Halloween party planned for Parque de la Alegría.
  • Bailén-Miraflores: “El 4 de las 4 del terror”, originally scheduled across several public squares and José Iturbi Boulevard.
  • Cruz de Humilladero: the free family activities planned in Parque San Rafael.
  • Carretera de Cádiz: the Halloween celebration at Parque de Huelin.
  • Churriana: the “Noche del Terror” and its themed performances.
  • Campanillas: the parade, workshops, photocall and haunted attraction at the Antonio Beltrán Lucena Cultural Centre, including activities designed for neurodivergent children.
  • Puerto de la Torre: the haunted attraction at Enrique Luque Núñez Park.
  • Teatinos-Universidad: the activities organised by the Teatinos-Ciudad de la Justicia Residents’ Association with support from the district.
  • National Digital Content Hub: the Poloween Horror Fest scheduled for 30 October.

The cancellations apply to municipal activities. Anyone holding a ticket or reservation for a party at a privately operated hotel, restaurant, nightclub or entertainment venue should contact the organiser directly.

Although the festivities have been cancelled, the special security operation planned for Halloween night will remain in place. A total of 242 officers are expected to be deployed across the city between 7pm on 31 October and 6am on 1 November.

The traditional Día del Tostón will also go ahead on Sunday at Parque de Nagüeles in Marbella, Parque de los Tres Jardines in San Pedro Alcántara and the Active Participation Centre in Las Chapas.

The Nagüeles event will begin at midday and include a race, children’s entertainment, inflatable attractions, music and the traditional distribution of roasted chestnuts between 4pm and 6pm.

Fuengirola suspends its main Halloween celebrations

Fuengirola has suspended the children’s Halloween party scheduled to take place in Parque del Sol on 31 October.

The Haunted House planned for the bullring has also been suspended, along with the Municipal Music Band’s Halloween concert and several other cultural and leisure activities.

The council has indicated that the departments responsible for the programme will announce whether the affected events receive new dates or are cancelled permanently.

Vélez-Málaga cancels its entire Halloween programme

Vélez-Málaga Council has cancelled every municipal Halloween activity planned throughout the municipality.

In Vélez-Málaga itself, the suspension affects the children’s workshops in Plaza de las Carmelitas, the Halloween street parade, the family entertainment show and the haunted attraction that was due to take place on Paseo de Andalucía.

The cancellation also applies to activities announced in:

  • Torre del Mar
  • Caleta de Vélez
  • Benajarafe
  • Valle-Niza
  • Cajiz
  • Triana
  • Almayate
  • Chilches
  • Mezquitilla
  • Lagos

Therefore, none of the municipal Halloween workshops, parades, performances or haunted attractions planned in these areas will take place.

Maroween moves to Sunday in Maro

The popular Maroween festival in Maro, Nerja, has not been cancelled. Instead, it has been rescheduled for Sunday, 1 November.

Activities will begin at 5pm and the original programme will be maintained. Visitors will be able to enjoy the street parade, roasted chestnuts and sweet potatoes, fancy-dress competitions and live musical performances.

Maroween traditionally combines Halloween activities with the flavours and customs of the autumn chestnut season, making it one of the most distinctive celebrations in the Axarquía.

Benahavís postpones Halloween until Sunday

Benahavís will also hold its Halloween celebration on Sunday, 1 November, from 5pm to 11pm.

The free programme will retain the attractions originally announced for Avenida de Andalucía, Plaza del Pilar, Plaza de España and the car park beneath the church.

Activities are expected to include inflatable attractions, themed workshops, haunted experiences, a panic tunnel and laser games.

Other confirmed changes across Malaga province

Several additional municipalities have announced cancellations or changes to their Halloween programmes.

Benalmádena

Mijas and Ojén

Both municipalities have suspended their municipal Halloween celebrations. Visitors should consult their official channels in case any activities are assigned a new date.

What about private Halloween parties?

The municipal announcements mainly affect activities organised, financed or hosted by local councils.

Halloween parties arranged by hotels, restaurants, nightclubs, shopping centres and private venues may follow different policies. Some may continue as planned, while others could be postponed or cancelled by their organisers.

Anyone who has purchased a ticket or made a reservation should check the venue’s website or social media channels and confirm its refund or date-change policy.

To avoid unnecessary journeys or arriving at a cancelled activity, visitors are advised to:

  1. Check the latest announcements from the relevant town or city council.
  2. Visit the organiser’s website or social media profile.
  3. Confirm the new date and time if the event has moved to Sunday.
