Residents in Marbella will have an extra hour to dispose of their household rubbish from Sunday, November 1, 2026. With the introduction of the municipality's winter schedule, household waste must be placed in designated containers between 7 pm and 11 pm, a change that will remain in force for five months, until March 31, 2027.

The measure applies across the municipality and brings forward the start of the permitted disposal period by one hour for organic household waste and non-recyclable domestic rubbish.

Until Saturday, October 31, the summer timetable will continue to apply, allowing residents to dispose of household waste between 8 pm and 11 pm.

Marbella City Council has used the announcement to remind residents of their responsibilities when disposing of rubbish, particularly the importance of placing bags inside containers, using strong and properly sealed bags, and avoiding waste being left on public streets.

Compliance with these regulations is monitored by the Local Police, who recorded 357 reports of offences relating to street cleanliness and waste management during the first six months of 2026.

New winter rubbish disposal hours in Marbella

Municipal regulations establish two different schedules for household waste disposal depending on the time of year.

The latest change marks the beginning of the winter period, running from November to March, when residents are allowed to put their rubbish out one hour earlier.

The permitted hours are:

PeriodPermitted disposal hours
April 1 to October 318 pm–11 pm
November 1 to March 317 pm–11 pm

This means that from Sunday, November 1, residents can dispose of household rubbish from 7 pm, rather than having to wait until 8 pm.

The closing time remains unchanged at 11 pm.

The system is intended to reduce the time rubbish remains in containers before collection and to support the work of municipal cleaning services.

How to dispose of rubbish correctly and avoid fines

Following the correct schedule is not the only requirement residents must meet.

Marbella City Council reminds the public that rubbish bags must always be placed inside the appropriate container and must never be abandoned on pavements or beside collection points.

This rule applies even when waste is disposed of during the permitted hours.

Rubbish bags must be properly sealed and strong enough to prevent leaks

To prevent spillages and unpleasant smells, household waste must be placed in suitable bags.

The Council requires residents to use approved, durable bags of an appropriate size, securely sealed to prevent liquids or waste from escaping during handling.

Once the bag has been placed inside the container, users must also close the lid.

These precautions are intended to reduce dirt around rubbish collection points and prevent waste from spreading onto public streets.

Leaving rubbish bags next to containers is prohibited

One of the main problems the Council aims to prevent is the practice of leaving rubbish bags outside designated bins.

Doing so can create hygiene problems, obstruct pavements and cause inconvenience to people living nearby.

Bags left on the ground can also split open, scattering rubbish across the street and increasing the workload of municipal cleaning teams.

Putting rubbish out at the correct time does not remove the obligation to place it completely inside the designated container.

When can residents recycle glass, plastic and cardboard in Marbella?

Not all types of waste are subject to the same disposal schedule.

Municipal regulations distinguish between ordinary household rubbish and materials collected separately for recycling.

Paper, cardboard and packaging: no specific time restrictions

Recyclable materials such as paper, cardboard and lightweight packaging can be deposited in their respective containers throughout the day.

There is no compulsory time window for these materials, provided their disposal does not disturb nearby residents.

The Council also emphasises the importance of using the correct container for each type of waste.

Paper and cardboard should be placed in the blue recycling bins, while plastic packaging, cans and drink cartons belong in the yellow containers.

Glass recycling: prohibited between 10 pm and 8 am

Glass is subject to a separate restriction because of the noise generated when bottles and other glass containers are deposited.

In Marbella, disposing of glass between 10 pm and 8 am is prohibited.

Glass bottles and jars must therefore be placed in the appropriate recycling containers between 8 am and 10 pm.

The restriction aims to reduce noise disturbances, particularly in residential streets and areas where recycling points are located close to homes.

How to arrange furniture and bulky waste collection in Marbella

Another important rule concerns the disposal of furniture, mattresses and other bulky household items.

Residents are not permitted to leave these objects next to rubbish containers without arranging their collection in advance.

Marbella operates a dedicated municipal collection service for furniture and bulky waste.

The telephone number for arranging collection is 952 768 720.

According to the municipal service information, residents can call from Monday to Friday, between 9 am and 2 pm.

Once collection has been arranged, items should be placed at the designated location between 9 pm and 11 pm, following the instructions provided by the service.

Residents must notify the collection service beforehand and follow the specified conditions.

Bulky waste can also be taken to recycling centres

Residents who prefer to dispose of these items themselves can take them to authorised municipal recycling centres, known locally as puntos limpios, or use an approved waste management company.

This provides an alternative to arranging collection and helps prevent bulky items from being abandoned in public areas.

The Council reminds residents that leaving furniture or other large objects on the street without following the proper procedure may result in fines.

Marbella recorded 357 waste-related offences in just six months

The introduction of the winter schedule comes amid increased municipal efforts to ensure compliance with street cleaning regulations.

During the first half of 2026, Marbella Local Police issued 357 reports relating to waste management and street cleanliness offences.

Most involved residents putting rubbish out outside the permitted hours.

The breakdown was as follows:

Type of offenceReports
Disposing of rubbish outside permitted hours270
Leaving waste in unauthorised locations25
Tampering with rubbish containers10
Other waste-related offences52
Total357

The 270 reports for breaching rubbish disposal hours accounted for approximately 75.6% of the total, meaning that around three out of every four reported offences involved putting rubbish out at the wrong time.

These figures highlight the importance of complying with the schedules established by municipal regulations.

How much are the fines for incorrect rubbish disposal in Marbella?

Municipal regulations establish penalties for people who fail to follow waste disposal requirements.

The amount of the fine depends on the seriousness of the offence and the circumstances involved.

The municipal ordinance establishes the following general penalty bands:

ClassificationPenalty
Minor offencesWarning or fine of €90–€750
Serious offences€751–€1,500
Very serious offences€1,501–€3,000

This does not mean that every breach of the rubbish disposal timetable automatically results in a €3,000 fine. The applicable penalty depends on how the offence is classified under the relevant regulations.

As well as checking disposal times, Local Police officers monitor other activities, including leaving waste outside containers, illegal dumping and improper handling of rubbish bins.

Areas of Marbella and San Pedro with the most waste-related offences

According to municipal figures for the first half of 2026, several streets and public areas recorded a higher incidence of breaches of waste disposal regulations.

In Marbella, the locations identified include:

  • Avenida Antonio Belón.
  • Puerto Deportivo.
  • El Faro area.
  • Calle Virgen del Pilar.
  • Calles Los Naranjos and Benalmádena.
  • Avenida Europa.
  • Avenida Camilo José Cela.
  • La Ermita industrial estate.

  • Avenida Oriental.
  • Avenida Lope de Mena.
  • Calle Pepe Osorio.
  • Avenida Pablo Ruiz Picasso.
  • Plaza Mariano Díaz Alonso.
  • Avenida Julio Iglesias.
  • The industrial estate.

Municipal inspections are carried out through cooperation between Marbella Local Police and the Council's Cleaning Department, with enforcement measures aimed at ensuring that residents, businesses and commercial establishments comply with the regulations.

An extra hour for household rubbish disposal as Marbella encourages residents to follow the rules

The winter schedule gives Marbella residents four hours each evening to dispose of household waste, compared with the three-hour period in force between April and October.

However, the City Council stresses that keeping the town clean depends not only on municipal collection services but also on the cooperation of everyone using public rubbish containers.

Following the permitted hours, separating recyclable materials correctly, using sealed bags and avoiding waste being left on pavements are simple measures that can make a significant difference to cleanliness.

From November 1, household rubbish in Marbella must be placed in designated containers between 7 pm and 11 pm, a timetable that will remain in force until the end of March 2027.
