Torrox Oktoberfest returns from 15 to 18 October with German beer, food and a huge marquee
Ferrara car park will host four days of Bavarian atmosphere with German beer, traditional food, music and a new 1,500-square-metre marquee bringing together festival stalls and local businesses.
Torrox is turning towards Germany once again this October. From Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 October, the municipality will host a new edition of its Oktoberfest, combining beer, food and German culture with the international character of one of the Axarquía’s most multicultural towns.
The event will take place at the Ferrara car park in Torrox Costa and this year will feature a major new addition: a large covered marquee measuring 1,500 square metres.
A 75-metre-long marquee
The new structure will measure approximately 75 metres long and 20 metres wide.
The aim is to bring together both the Oktoberfest stalls and a selection of local Torrox businesses under the same roof.
This means the event will not focus solely on German food and drink, but will also seek to generate activity for local shops and businesses.
The festival begins this Thursday
The official opening is scheduled for Thursday 15 October at 7:00 pm.
The event will be attended by the German consul in Málaga, Franko Stritt Grohe, highlighting the strong connection between the celebration and the large German community living in Torrox and other parts of the eastern Costa del Sol.
From that point on, four days of one of Germany’s best-known festive traditions will begin.
German beer served in one-litre steins
As with any Oktoberfest, beer will be one of the main attractions.
Visitors will be able to enjoy German beer served in traditional one-litre steins, accompanied by a selection of dishes inspired by German cuisine.
The atmosphere will draw on the spirit of Munich’s famous celebrations, combining food, music and themed decoration.
German flavours on the Costa del Sol
Food will be another major part of the event.
Bavarian-style festivals are typically associated with sausages, meats, breads and other Central European specialities.
In Torrox, this offering will be combined with the participation of local businesses from the municipality.
The result is designed to appeal both to people already familiar with German culture and to visitors simply looking to discover it over the weekend.
A celebration closely linked to the German community
The relationship between Torrox and Germany goes far beyond this event.
The municipality has had a significant foreign population for many years, particularly residents from Germany.
This influence can be seen in local businesses, services, associations and celebrations that are now part of everyday life in the town.
Oktoberfest has become one of the clearest examples of this coexistence between local and international residents.
A plan for residents and visitors from across the Axarquía
The event is designed to attract a broad audience.
As well as Torrox residents, each edition draws visitors from other Axarquía municipalities and different parts of the Costa del Sol.
Its location in Torrox Costa also makes it easy to combine the visit with a walk along the seafront, local restaurants or nearby terraces.
A way to extend activity beyond summer
The event also has a tourism dimension.
Festivals such as Oktoberfest help keep the coast lively after the summer high season.
October still offers mild temperatures on the Costa del Sol, allowing outdoor activity to continue comfortably.
For Torrox, events like this help attract visitors outside July and August and strengthen the town’s autumn leisure calendar.
The new marquee will make the event more comfortable
The main improvement this year is the covered space.
The 1,500-square-metre marquee will allow much of the activity to be concentrated in one area.
As well as offering protection from possible changes in the weather, the structure will make it easier to organise stalls and areas for eating, drinking and enjoying the atmosphere.
The inclusion of local businesses in the same space should also increase the variety on offer.
Four days of German atmosphere in Torrox
Oktoberfest will run from Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 October.
Over those four days, the Ferrara car park will be transformed into a small Bavarian-inspired meeting point.
Beer, food, music and international community spirit will be the main ingredients of a celebration that continues to grow in importance within Torrox’s autumn calendar.
