Marbella is offering a new opportunity to explore printmaking from an experimental perspective. The Museum of Contemporary Spanish Engraving has organised a course on solar photo-printing techniques that will run from 7 October to 10 December 2026, giving participants the chance to work with images, photoliths and photosensitive materials.

The course will take place in the museum’s workshop at the Cortijo Miraflores Cultural Centre, turning the space into a practical laboratory where light becomes an essential part of the image-making process.

What will participants learn?

The programme is designed to explore different stages of the photo-printing process.

Participants will learn how to prepare photoliths using the correct parameters, work with photosensitive pigments, apply them properly to different surfaces and understand the most suitable exposure techniques for producing images.

Photo-printing makes it possible to transfer an image onto a surface using light-sensitive materials, opening up creative possibilities that combine photography, graphic techniques and experimentation.

The course therefore complements the museum’s wider educational programme, which combines exhibitions with practical workshops focusing on different printmaking and image-making processes.

Course dates and times

The course will run from 7 October to 10 December 2026.

Sessions will take place at the following times:

  • Wednesdays: 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm
  • Thursdays: 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

Classes will be held at the Cortijo Miraflores Cultural Centre in Marbella, where the Museum of Engraving’s workshop is currently based.

Registration open until 18 September

Anyone interested in taking part must register by 18 September.

Registration can be completed directly through the Museum of Contemporary Spanish Engraving. Participants can also download the registration form and send it, together with proof of payment, to info@museodelgrabado.es.

The standard course fee is €280.

However, a 50% discount is available for Marbella residents and regular students of the museum’s workshop, significantly reducing the cost for eligible participants.

A course combining photography and printmaking

One of the most interesting aspects of the course is its focus on techniques that sit between photography, graphic art and traditional printing processes.

Unlike purely digital image-making, solar photo-printing involves direct work with surfaces, pigments, light exposure and physical variables that influence the final result.

The course may be especially appealing to people interested in photography, illustration, engraving, fine arts or experimental graphic techniques, as well as anyone looking to discover alternative ways of producing images.

Practical information

The course will take place from 7 October to 10 December, with sessions on Wednesday afternoons and Thursday mornings. Registration closes on 18 September, the standard fee is €280, and residents and regular students are entitled to a 50% discount.

For further information about registration, the museum can be contacted on 952 93 88 40 or by email at info@museodelgrabado.es.

Dates, times, prices and registration details can be found in the official information published by Marbella Town Hall about the Museum of Contemporary Spanish Engraving’s solar photo-printing course.
