Moclinejo Grape Harvest Festival 2026: €1 paella, live music and traditional wine-making workshops this Sunday

Moclinejo will once again celebrate its close connection with the Muscat grape this Sunday, 13 September 2026. The 26th Día de Viñeros will fill the streets of this Axarquía village with food, music and demonstrations of the traditional agricultural work that has shaped the area for generations.

Recognised as an event of Provincial Tourist Interest, the festival is also a tribute to the families who have kept the local wine-growing and raisin-making traditions alive over the years.

Surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and almond trees, Moclinejo is known as one of the gateways to the Ruta de la Pasa, the traditional Raisin Route.

The day begins with the blessing of the grapes

The first events will start at 11:30 am with a Mass and the traditional blessing of the grapes, accompanied by the Aires de la Axarquía choir.

From there, the village will gradually turn into a living showcase of its agricultural past.

One of the most characteristic moments will be the walk to the traditional wine press, accompanied by verdiales music, where visitors will be able to watch the traditional stomping of Muscat grapes.

The festival aims to preserve and share techniques that were once part of everyday life for many families across the Axarquía.

Workshops on traditional raisin production

Visitors will not simply have to watch from the sidelines.

Between 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm, the wine-press area will host workshops and demonstrations linked to traditional grape and raisin production.

The public will be able to learn about processes such as cutting and preparing raisins, sieving, laying grapes out to dry and grape stomping, alongside traditional local dances.

These activities are designed to help younger generations and visitors understand the craftsmanship behind one of the Axarquía’s most distinctive products.

Popular paella for just €1

Food will be one of the main attractions throughout the day.

From 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm, traditional stalls around Moclinejo will offer products closely associated with the area, including cured meats, hornazos, raisins, local wine and Muscat grapes.

One of the busiest moments is expected at 3:30 pm, when the traditional popular paella will be served for just €1.

Money raised from the paella will go to a local association.

Later, at 6:00 pm, visitors will also be able to enjoy a tasting of homemade borrachuelos, a traditional Andalusian sweet, at the CEPA building.

Wine tasting among this year’s new activities

Wine will naturally have its own place in the programme.

The 2026 edition includes a wine tasting as one of the new activities, further strengthening the festival’s connection with Moclinejo’s wine-growing tradition.

Visitors will therefore have the chance not only to taste local products, but also to learn more about how they are made and why Muscat grapes remain such an important part of the municipality’s landscape and identity.

Live art inspired by the vineyards

Another new feature this year will be ‘Arte a pie de viña’, combining visual art with the village’s agricultural heritage.

From 12:30 pm, five female artists will create works live on wine barrels, taking inspiration from vineyards and traditional wine-making activities.

The event will also feature the Panda Chica de El Valdés, bringing verdiales music into the artistic programme.

Between 12:30 pm and 6:00 pm, visitors can also see the exhibition ‘Ventanas al arte y al moscatel’ at the Sala de Exposiciones Antonio Segovia Lobillo.

Those interested in learning more about local wine culture will also be able to visit the Antonio Muñoz Cabrera Winery Museum until 4:00 pm.

Live music and entertainment into the evening

Once the paella has been served, the celebrations will continue with music.

Electroduendes and Malamanera will perform during the afternoon, while the programme will also include the election of the Dama y Míster de las Viñas.

The festival will continue into the evening, with one of its final highlights scheduled for 8:30 pm, when Cádiz carnival group Los Company takes to the stage.

Food, popular music and local traditions will therefore keep the village atmosphere going for most of the day.

Activities for families and visitors

The Día de Viñeros is designed to be enjoyed by all ages.

Families attending with children will have access to a free childcare and activity service from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm, aimed at children aged between 3 and 12.

There will also be a free guided tour for up to 20 people, offering visitors the chance to discover more about the village, its heritage and its historic relationship with grape growing. Advance registration is required.

More than just a food festival

Although the tastings are one of the biggest attractions, the Día de Viñeros is fundamentally a tribute to the generations of farmers who have maintained the cultivation of the Muscat grape on the steep hillsides of the Axarquía.

Manual work, difficult terrain and traditional drying techniques have created a distinctive agricultural landscape that remains closely linked to the identity of Moclinejo.

Every September, the village turns that heritage into an open celebration, inviting residents and visitors to gather around the wine press, local produce and traditions that have shaped the municipality for centuries.

This Sunday, 13 September, the combination of workshops, tastings, art and live performances makes Moclinejo one of the most complete food and culture day trips in Málaga province.
