Canillas de Albaida is preparing one of its most nostalgic and lively nights of the summer. The Axarquía village will celebrate the IX Fiesta de la Gramola on Saturday 29 August 2026, bringing back the music, fashion and iconic characters of the 1960s, 70s and 80s.

The event will begin at 10.30pm in Plaza Nuestra Señora del Rosario, which will be transformed into an open-air dancefloor for the night.

A journey back through three decades

The Fiesta de la Gramola is about much more than simply listening to old favourites.

A key part of the event is the chance for visitors to dress up in the style of past decades, taking inspiration from singers, bands, films, television characters and other well-known cultural icons.

Flared trousers, vintage shirts, wigs and retro dresses are expected to return to the streets of the village as residents and visitors fully embrace the theme.

The celebration began around a decade ago and, despite being interrupted for two years during the pandemic, has become one of Canillas de Albaida’s most distinctive end-of-summer events.

Music until sunrise

The soundtrack for the evening will be provided by José Carlos García, from Radio Nostalgia, and Toni Solís, from La Jungla Radio.

The two DJs will play a selection of hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s, with the party expected to continue until dawn.

That mix of generations is one of the event’s main attractions. Some songs will be instantly familiar to those who first heard them decades ago, while younger visitors may recognise them from films, television or modern reinterpretations.

Prizes for the best retro looks

Putting effort into the outfit could also pay off.

This year’s event will once again reward the best costumes and characterisations, with categories for groups, couples, adults and children.

There will also be a King and Queen of the Fiesta, with the judges considering not only the costumes themselves but also how enthusiastically participants get involved in the atmosphere of the night.

Cash prizes are also planned for some of the standout entries.

A charity bar with a local cause

The 2026 edition will also include a charitable element.

A charity bar will raise funds for the Stop AME Vamos Higinio association, an initiative created to support a local family and contribute to research into spinal muscular atrophy.

This gives the event an additional community purpose alongside its music and entertainment.

A different way to say goodbye to August in the Axarquía

With a population of around 700 people, Canillas de Albaida takes on a very different atmosphere during the Fiesta de la Gramola, attracting visitors from other parts of the Axarquía as well.

Its appeal is simple: a village square, familiar songs, retro outfits and hours of dancing under the summer night sky.
