Castillo El Bil Bil reopens in Benalmádena with a new Tourist Office

Castillo El Bil Bil has reopened in Benalmádena after a major restoration project that strengthens its role as one of the municipality’s most recognisable cultural and tourist spaces.

The works involved an investment of more than €940,000 and form part of Benalmádena’s Tourism Sustainability Plan, which has a total budget of €5 million. The project has modernised the complex, recovered areas for public use and improved the services available to both residents and visitors.

A new Tourist Office at the entrance to the castle

One of the main new features is the opening of a Tourist Information Office in the annex building that provides access to Castillo El Bil Bil.

This space has been transformed into a more modern, accessible and functional area, with a public service desk, administrative offices and an adapted bathroom. It also includes an exhibition area dedicated to the history and traditional gastronomy of Benalmádena.

Moving the Tourist Office to the annex frees up space inside the main building, allowing the castle itself to strengthen its cultural and exhibition role.

Energy efficiency and building improvements

The renovation has also included improvement works on the castle itself. Façades, wooden carpentry and protective railings have been repaired, while the skylight has been replaced with a more efficient one to help improve the building’s climate control.

In the annex building, windows, shutters, electrical systems, lighting, plumbing, telecommunications and fire protection systems have been renewed. The roof has also been waterproofed, bathrooms have been refurbished and photovoltaic panels have been installed.

These works improve accessibility, comfort and sustainability while preserving the castle’s heritage value and its distinctive image beside the seafront promenade.

Immersive experiences to discover Benalmádena

Digitalisation is another key part of this new stage. The Tourist Office includes a large-format LED screen, a second screen in the public service area and an audiovisual system for the building.

Three immersive virtual reality stations have also been installed, with motion benches, VR headsets and touch tablets. These resources will allow visitors to discover the history, heritage and main attractions of Benalmádena in different languages.

A cultural symbol of the Costa del Sol

Castillo El Bil Bil is one of the most photographed buildings in Benalmádena and one of the architectural landmarks of the Málaga coastline. Its Moorish-inspired style, seafront location and role as a cultural venue have made it a regular stop for residents and tourists.

With this reopening, the town reinforces one of its most representative spaces and adds a new Tourist Information point adapted to the needs of today’s visitors.
