The Best Tortilla has already started in Málaga. Since this Friday, the Terminal de Cruceros del Puerto de Málaga hosts the first Spanish championship in search of the best Spanish omelette in the country. Until Sunday, June 22, the event gathers the 16 best Spanish omelettes in Spain, with a nod to the restaurants of Málaga. The event, where you can try classic pinchos and gourmet portions, offers all kinds of alternatives for lovers of the fusion of two elements such as potato and egg, what more could you ask for.
There will be 16 establishments competing to become the champions of Spain with the best Spanish omelette, whether classic or gourmet, so everyone who comes to The Best Tortilla will be able to taste not only 16 types of omelette but 32, between both options. Below are all the participants and their two competing omelettes.
- La Tasca del Langui (Málaga): Langui's melosa with onion or Langui's chulapa omelette with Iñaki's peppers and toasted foie
- Sibarita (Valencia): classic fluid with caramelized onion or omelette with sobrasada and parmesan
- Vibra Bar (Valencia): classic with onion or omelette with fuet, crystallized onion, gouda cheese, honey, and bacon
- Adicto Adicta (Valencia): classic or omelette with smoked bacon and truffle
- Pez Tortilla (Madrid): classic with onion or omelette with brie, ham, and truffle
- Amatxi (Bilbao): classic with onion or omelette with Joselito chorizo
- David Gelicook (Lleida): dancing omelette with onion or sobrasada and honey omelette
- Grupo Gastro Trinquet (Valencia): classic with onion or omelette with spicy tuna tartar
- Gastrorgásmico (Madrid): classic omelette empanadilla with onion or empanadilla with Joselito chorizo and cheese
- Etiqueta Negra (Madrid): classic with onion or omelette with goat cheese, caramelized pepper, and spicy chorizo
- Cocina Derecho (Jerez): classic with onion and smoked potato or omelette with low-temperature cheek, confit onion, and Iberian jowl veil
- Despensa de Bermejo (San Sebastian): classic with onion or Creole omelette skewer
- Piraña (Valladolid): The Genoese, pesto, pomodoro, and four cheeses
- La tortilla del Zabaleta (San Sebastian): Zabaleta's omelette with onion and pepper or reduced to txakoli and Idiazábal cheese omelette
- El Lagar de Verum (Málaga): classic or omelette with torreznos and Iberian jowl veil
- La Pichurrita (Valencia): classic with onion or carbonara omelette
It's worth noting that, in addition to omelettes, there will be other brands offering other gastronomic options, drinks, and desserts. Also present will be Bar Mistela, Jenkin's, Camperos & Friends, La + Fría, Adicto Adicta, Glasol, La Casa de las Locas, and Tejeros.
Timings and prices of the Spanish omelettes
The Best Tortilla, at the Terminal de Cruceros del Puerto de Málaga, will be open this Friday 13 from 18:00 to 1:30 hours, with free admission. The rest of the days the timings change: Saturday 14 from 11:00 to 1:30 hours; Sunday 15 from 11:00 to 23:30 hours; Monday 16, Tuesday 17, Wednesday 18, and Thursday 19 from 18:00 to 23:30 hours; Friday 20 from 12:00 to 1:30; Saturday 21 from 11:00 to 1:30 hours; and Sunday 22 from 11:00 to 23:30 hours. The space has been equipped to accommodate outdoor bars, communal tables, shaded areas, and a stage where concerts, DJ sets, and performances by local artists will take place.
For now, there is the possibility to purchase pinchos and drinks online in advance to avoid queues through their website. Prices start from 4.50 euros for the classic pincho and 5.50 for the gourmet.
The Best Tortilla, to crown the best Spanish omelette in Spain
The Best Tortilla was created with the goal of finding and awarding the best Spanish omelette in Spain. For this, 16 outstanding proposals from the country were selected from hundreds of applications, evaluated by a committee of experts consisting of chefs, gastronomic critics, and specialists in this emblematic dish of Spanish cuisine. Málaga will be the first of eight cities to host this traveling event, which will also visit Barcelona, Castellón, Valencia, Alicante, Zaragoza, Murcia, and Madrid.
