Applications will remain open until November 20, 2026. Each proposed mural must be inspired by one of the cultural or educational activities regularly hosted at the centre.

The competition has an announced overall allocation of €10,000. The artists behind the seven winning designs will be required to complete their murals between December 14 and 18.

Seven murals inspired by cultural activities

Each new artwork will be connected to a different discipline represented at the Centro Cultural Padre Manuel. The seven themes are:

  • Chess
  • Dance
  • Theatre
  • Painting
  • Literature
  • The library
  • Music

Every entry must be original and designed specifically for its allocated location. As well as representing the selected subject, the artwork must take into account the dimensions and technical characteristics of the available wall.

The project aims to transform several interior walls into contemporary creative spaces while establishing a visual connection between the building and the activities taking place inside it.

Who can enter the competition?

The call is open to visual artists, mural painters, art students and artistic collectives aged 18 or over from anywhere in Spain.

Individuals and groups may submit designs for more than one of the seven spaces. However, each artist or collective can only receive an award in one category.

Applicants can therefore compete with several different ideas, but the seven commissions will ultimately be distributed among separate artists or groups.

Awards of up to €1,650

The value of each award depends on the dimensions and requirements of the corresponding mural:

  • Dance: €1,650
  • Music: €1,650
  • Painting: €1,200
  • Library: €1,200
  • Chess: €900
  • Theatre: €900
  • Literature: €900

These amounts must cover the costs associated with designing and producing the murals. Applicants should therefore consider the price of materials and any technical requirements when preparing their proposals.

What must applicants submit?

Artists must provide a dossier containing sufficient information for the jury to assess both their creative background and the feasibility of the proposed mural.

Applications must include:

  • Information about the artist’s or collective’s previous work.
  • A colour sketch of the proposed mural.
  • A photomontage showing how the finished work would look in its intended location.
  • A written explanation of the artistic concept.
  • Details of the proposed technique.
  • A description of the materials that will be used.

Anyone entering more than one category must provide the relevant documentation for each individual space.

How will the winning murals be selected?

A professional jury will evaluate the submissions. Its decision will consider the originality and artistic quality of each design, its connection with the relevant cultural theme and its suitability for the assigned location.

The judges will also assess technical feasibility. The winning murals must be completed within the specified period while remaining compatible with the usual operation of the cultural centre.

Application deadline and submission process

Entries must be submitted by 10am on Friday, November 20, 2026.

All documentation must be filed through Estepona Town Hall’s official registry in accordance with the competition rules. The full conditions, technical information about the seven spaces and detailed descriptions of the themes are available through the council’s noticeboard.

The selected artists will then complete their murals at the Centro Cultural Padre Manuel between December 14 and 18, 2026.

Estepona expands its commitment to mural art

The project will bring the visual impact of urban art inside one of Estepona’s principal cultural venues. Its walls will become part of the everyday experience of students, teachers, visitors and other users of the building.

It also represents a professional opportunity for both emerging and established artists, who will be able to leave a permanent work in a town where large-scale murals have become a prominent part of the cultural landscape.
