A More Modern and Functional Library

Alhaurín el Grande Town Council has invested approximately €33,000 in modernising Ildefonso Marzo Municipal Library.

The improvements carried out over recent months are intended to make the building more comfortable, secure and energy efficient while updating its technology.

The project covers several areas, including the children’s library, main reading room, multimedia space and auditorium. Further work on Wi-Fi connectivity and climate control is also planned.

Improvements to the Children’s Library

Approximately €12,000 of the total investment has been allocated to the children’s area.

New solar and thermal protection films have been installed on the roof. These will reduce direct heat and protect books, furniture and flooring from damage caused by prolonged exposure to sunlight.

The measure should also help maintain a more comfortable indoor temperature and reduce energy consumption.

Safer Flooring for Children’s Activities

The flooring in the children’s library had deteriorated over time and due to direct sunlight.

It has now been replaced, while the seating platform used for games, workshops and children’s activities has also been renovated.

A cushioned, easy-to-clean surface has been installed to provide a safer and more comfortable environment for younger visitors.

New Shelving in the Main Room

The main library has received new shelving designed to improve the organisation and display of its collections.

The furniture was selected to combine functionality with the visual character of the room.

The new layout should make books easier to locate and allow better use of the available space.

Powered Desks and Ergonomic Chairs

The multimedia room now contains powered desks where visitors can connect laptops and other electronic devices.

Ergonomic chairs have also been introduced to improve conditions for people using the library for study, remote work or access to digital resources.

These additions adapt the room to the needs of users who require electricity and comfortable seating for extended periods.

LED Lighting Throughout the Building

The former lighting system has been replaced with energy-efficient LED technology.

The new lights provide more consistent illumination across reading and study areas while reducing electricity consumption and maintenance requirements.

Worn seating in other areas of the library is also being replaced progressively.

New Audiovisual Equipment

The auditorium has received a new sound desk and projector, replacing equipment that was no longer operating correctly.

Its audiovisual cabling has also been updated. VGA connections have been replaced with HDMI to improve compatibility with modern laptops, projectors and other devices.

The improvements will support presentations, conferences, workshops and cultural events held at the library.

Wi-Fi and Air-Conditioning Improvements

The council is continuing to work on the library’s wireless internet connection and climate-control systems.

The next phase aims to provide more stable Wi-Fi and improve temperatures throughout the building.

These projects remain in progress and will gradually complement the renovations already completed.

More Than a Place for Books

Ildefonso Marzo Municipal Library provides services beyond lending and reading.

The building hosts children’s activities, literary events, presentations and cultural programmes while also offering spaces for studying and accessing the internet.

The investment is intended to strengthen its role as an educational and cultural meeting place for the residents of Alhaurín el Grande.
