A Comedy to Open the New Season

Teatro Cánovas in Málaga opens its 2026-2027 season with the premiere of La pastilla de la felicidad, the fifth production by local theatre company La Coracha. Performances will take place on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 October at 8:00 p.m. in auditorium A of the cultural venue in Plaza de El Ejido.

The production reaches the stage after an artistic residency held at the theatre throughout September. This process allowed the company to develop and complete the show before presenting it to an audience for the first time.

A Reflection on the Obligation to Be Happy

The play imagines a society in which happiness and personal fulfilment are no longer aspirations but obligations. Through everyday situations, humour and satire, the production addresses the pressure to display a constantly perfect and optimistic life.

The story also examines the difficulty of accepting emotions such as sadness, pain, frustration and uncertainty. It explores the medicalisation of distress, the growth of motivational discourse and the influence of technology on personal decisions.

Rather than providing definitive answers, the show raises questions about the model of wellbeing promoted by modern society and the consequences of trying to maintain a permanently positive attitude.

Cast and Creative Team

The cast includes Inmaculada Caballero, Paco Pozo, Cyntica García and Garikoitz Lariz. Carla Guimarães wrote the play, while Paco Pozo is responsible for its direction and set design.

The creative team also includes M. Luisa Tomás for music and sound design, Michael Collins for lighting, Juan Fleta for costumes and props, and Miguel A. Almanza for photography and video.

Tickets for Both Performances

General admission costs €20. A reduced €15 ticket is available for young people, students, senior citizens, groups, performing arts professionals and Tarjeta Amigo holders, among other eligible visitors.

Tickets can be purchased through the Teatro Cánovas ticketing website, from the sales point in the theatre foyer or at the physical box office. The venue is also introducing its Abono 10 this season, allowing audiences to attend ten performances for €100.
