Málaga’s Teatro del Soho unveils an ambitious new season featuring more than 40 shows

The Teatro del Soho CaixaBank in Málaga has unveiled its programme for the 2026/2027 season, one of the most extensive since the venue opened. More than 40 productions will take to the stage on Calle Córdoba over the coming months, combining major names from Spanish theatre, new work by Málaga-based artists, family shows and large-scale musical productions.

The new programme also consolidates a cultural project that, since 2019, has raised the curtain on 1,580 occasions and welcomed nearly 850,000 spectators. The theatre has also strengthened its ties with Málaga’s cultural and social community through collaborations with music, drama and dance schools, as well as organisations working in mental health, support for older people and social inclusion.

Carmen Linares to open the season

The season will begin on 12 September 2026 with a concert by Carmen Linares, paying tribute to Antología de la mujer en el cante, the album that marked a turning point in her career. Thirty years later, the flamenco singer will revisit a repertoire that is essential to understanding her contribution to contemporary flamenco.

The theatre programme will begin from 24 to 27 September with the world premiere of ¿Tú sabes lo que es una posidonia?, a new in-house production created by Málaga actress and playwright Alessandra García.

García will also be the theatre’s resident artist throughout the season. Her new work presents an intimate dialogue between the creator and the theatre itself, breaking with traditional conventions and exploring alternative ways of creating for the stage.

Stephen King, Fernando Fernán Gómez and Roald Dahl arrive on stage

The autumn programme will feature several of the season’s most prominent theatre productions. From 2 to 4 October, audiences will be able to see Misery, adapted from Stephen King’s famous novel and starring Carmen Conesa, Marcial Álvarez and Alberto Vázquez. The production brings to the stage the psychological confrontation between a writer and the obsessive admirer holding him captive.

On 9 and 10 October, Long Day’s Journey into Night, a classic of modern theatre starring Carlos Hipólito, will be performed. Later, from 22 to 25 October, José Sacristán will return to Málaga with El hijo de la cómica, a tribute to Fernando Fernán Gómez based on his memoirs.

The month will end with José María Pou in Giant on 29 and 30 October. The play explores the figure of writer Roald Dahl and the controversy sparked by statements that damaged his reputation. The production won three Olivier Awards in 2025, including Best New Play.

Javier Cámara makes his Teatro del Soho debut

One of November’s biggest names will be Javier Cámara, who will perform at the Teatro del Soho for the first time from 6 to 8 November. He will star in Verborrea, a tragicomedy written and directed by Pablo Remón, alongside Israel Elejalde, Marta Nieto and Emilio Tomé.

From 13 to 15 November, María Adánez and José Luis García Pérez will lead the cast of A View from the Bridge, Arthur Miller’s tragedy set within an Italian-American community in 1950s Brooklyn.

Then, from 17 to 22 November, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel will arrive on stage with The Great Gatsby – The Show, a production combining dance, acting and live jazz.

Antonio Banderas to direct the major Christmas production

One of the main musical highlights will be Christmas at the Soho: A Musical Tale, running from 2 to 13 December. The production will be artistically directed by Antonio Banderas and will feature the Larios Pop del Soho Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Arturo Díez Boscovich.

The programme will combine traditional Spanish Christmas carols, American seasonal classics and original compositions in a production designed to immerse audiences in the festive atmosphere.

December’s family programme will continue on 19 and 20 December with Duck Pond, a circus reinterpretation of Swan Lake created by Australian company Circa. Acrobatics, aerial performances and humour will be used to explore themes including identity and transformation.

Pepón Nieto, Charo López and Lluís Homar lead the start of 2027

The programme will continue in January with the return of Alessandra García and her production Mujer en cinta de correr sobre fondo negro, scheduled for 1 and 2 January.

From 29 to 31 January, Pepón Nieto will lead the cast of La pasión infinita, alongside Claudio Tolcachir, Ana Labordeta and Avelino Piedad.

On 6 February, Charo López will pay tribute in Poesía de Mujer to writers including Gloria Fuertes, Rosalía de Castro and Saint Teresa of Ávila. On 13 and 14 February, Málaga company El Espejo Negro will present its adaptation of Snow White.

One of the season’s major theatrical events will be King Lear, running from 26 February to 6 March. Shakespeare’s tragedy will star Lluís Homar and be directed by Declan Donnellan as part of an international co-production.

TIP TOE Festival strengthens the theatre’s commitment to dance

Dance will have a prominent role through the second edition of the TIP TOE International Festival, directed by Lucía Lacarra. The April event will bring together international companies and productions including Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Lucía Lacarra Ballet, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo and Bern Ballet.

The programme will feature works such as La Mer, Lost Letters, Carmen and Amalur Infinita, reinforcing the Soho’s intention to establish dance as a permanent part of its annual programme.

Symphonic music, new musicals and a finale celebrating the history of the Soho

The Larios Pop del Soho Orchestra will once again perform its traditional Lent Concert on 12 and 13 March, with a repertoire centred on the processional marches of Málaga’s Holy Week.

From 20 to 23 May, more than 60 musicians will take part in Pentagrama Español, a tribute to Spanish symphonic music featuring works by composers including Manuel de Falla, Antón García Abril and Emmanuel Chabrier.

The final section of the season will also include the musicals Six and Houdini, the Magical Musical, a production combining musical theatre and illusionism.

To close the programme, Estrellas del Soho will be staged from 23 to 30 July. The concert will bring together the Larios Pop del Soho Orchestra and performers from the theatre’s major musicals, revisiting songs from A Chorus Line, Company, They’re Playing Our Song, Gypsy and Godspell, all directed by Antonio Banderas.

A project looking towards the future

The theatre’s director, Aurora Rosales, said the aim is to continue expanding and consolidating the project’s reputation. Plans already under consideration include opening a theatre in Madrid and developing an alternative format for smaller venues and productions featuring only two performers.

With this new season, the Teatro del Soho strengthens its position as one of Málaga’s leading cultural venues. The combination of established performers, local talent, in-house productions and international projects will ensure an almost continuous programme from September 2026 until July 2027.
