Discovering Málaga After Sunset

The end of summer does not mean the end of outdoor activities in the province of Málaga. Throughout September, guided walks, theatrical tours and special evening visits continue to provide alternative ways to experience the area’s heritage.

As well as avoiding the highest daytime temperatures, these activities provide access to monuments outside their usual opening hours, opportunities to walk beneath the stars and guided tours of historic gardens after they have closed to the general public.

Here are five experiences still available during September 2026.

Antequera Extends Its Luz de Luna Programme

Antequera will continue its Luz de Luna programme until 30 September, moving much of the city’s tourism and cultural activity into the cooler evening hours.

The programme includes routes through the historic centre, visits to the Alcazaba and the Royal Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor, experiences at the Antequera Dolmens Archaeological Site and activities in El Torcal.

Astronomical observations, guided walks, food experiences, concerts and family activities are also organised. The programme changes weekly and takes place across several locations in and around Antequera.

Some activities require advance booking and have limited capacity, so checking the individual conditions before travelling is advisable.

Senderismo al Fresco in Casabermeja

Casabermeja will take advantage of September’s cooler temperatures to complete another edition of its Senderismo al Fresco programme.

The initiative offers guided walks at sunset through some of the municipality’s most interesting natural and cultural locations. Routes held during the summer have explored Peñas de Cabrera, the ancient olive tree, Torre Zambra, Campo de Cámara, the historic cemetery and the Route of the Fountains.

The outings combine walking, information about the surrounding landscape and panoramic views during the final hours of daylight. They also traditionally finish with tapas at local bars and restaurants.

The final routes are scheduled for 7, 8, 14 and 15 September. Advance registration is required, and difficulty may vary between itineraries.

Vélez-Málaga Brings Its History to Life

Vélez-Málaga offers two different ways to explore its past during September. The first is a theatrical tourist train connecting Torre del Mar with the historic centre of Vélez-Málaga.

The final departures of the season will take place on 4 and 11 September at 8:00 p.m., leaving from the roundabout on Paseo de Larios in Torre del Mar. Characters connected with different periods of local history appear during the journey.

Tickets cost €15 for adults and €10 for children.

The second experience takes place on Saturday 12 September. La Casa de las Titas will organise the evening theatrical tour “Marchionesses, Bishops, Queens and Other Ghosts from the History of Vélez”.

The activity begins at 8:00 p.m. and includes a welcome tasting of local wine and sweets before visiting churches, walls, palaces and historic streets. Tickets cost €15 for adults and €6 for children.

La Concepción Botanical Garden After Closing Time

La Concepción Historical Botanical Garden offers three opportunities to explore its paths during September evenings.

The first takes place on Thursday 3 September at 9:00 p.m. “La Concepción Through Time: Between Centuries and Seeds” is a theatrical tour combining the genuine history of the estate with characters and elements of fantasy. Admission costs €17 and includes entry to the garden.

On Friday 11 and 18 September, the garden will host “Evenings with History”. These 90-minute guided tours begin after the grounds have closed to the general public.

Visitors can learn about the origins of this protected historic garden while walking through its oldest areas beneath the evening lights. Standard admission is €8.40, with a reduced price of €6.30.

La Arxiduna Dormida Revives Archidona’s Past

On Saturday 12 September, Archidona will bring back one of its most distinctive cultural experiences: La Arxiduna Dormida. Echoes of the Past.

The route combines a guided visit with theatrical scenes transporting participants to different periods connected with the old settlement’s history.

Archidona’s monuments provide a natural setting for the performance as historical characters recreate events from previous centuries.

The experience begins at 6:00 p.m. General admission costs €8, while children aged 13 and under can participate free of charge. Places must be booked in advance.
