Mijas to celebrate September with flamenco and free paella in the heart of the village

Mijas Pueblo has a special date marked on the calendar as summer draws to a close. On Wednesday 23 September 2026, the village will celebrate its traditional Tourist Day with an event combining two of Andalusia’s best-known cultural traditions: flamenco and gastronomy.

The celebration will take place in Plaza Virgen de la Peña, one of the most recognisable and busiest spots in the historic centre, and will be open to both tourists and local residents.

The programme will begin at midday, with one of the main highlights being a free paella tasting.

Activities will begin at 12 noon with an open-air flamenco performance.

The location is particularly fitting. Plaza Virgen de la Peña is one of the main stops for visitors exploring Mijas Pueblo and regularly hosts cultural activities throughout the year.

Flamenco is also a familiar part of the municipality’s tourism offering. During 2026, Mijas has continued to organise free weekly performances in several village squares, maintaining a long-running tradition of introducing visitors to this form of Andalusian culture.

Tourist Day will once again use that connection to turn the village centre into a lively cultural meeting point.

Free paella from 1.30pm

After the flamenco performance, the focus will move to food.

From 1.30pm, visitors will be able to enjoy a free paella tasting in the square.

The combination of flamenco and traditional food has become a familiar part of Tourist Day in Mijas and usually brings together people from a wide range of nationalities.

Previous editions have attracted large crowds, turning Plaza Virgen de la Peña into a meeting place for both residents and holidaymakers.

A shuttle bus will make it easier to reach the event

To help visitors reach Mijas Pueblo, the Town Hall has also announced a special shuttle bus service.

The measure is intended to make access easier in an area where traffic and parking can become more complicated during busy events.

Tourist Day is held around World Tourism Day, an international date highlighting the economic, social and cultural importance of tourism.
