Mijas Town Council is launching the environmental campaign ‘Blue Territory’, an initiative designed to raise public awareness of the benefits of recycling and the importance of preventing plastic waste from reaching the sea.

The activity will take place on 1 August, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at El Torreón Beach in La Cala de Mijas. The campaign is organised by the council’s Youth and Environment departments.

A Day to Learn About the Impact of Plastic Waste

An information stand will be set up during the event under the slogan ‘Let’s Keep Plastic Out of the Sea’, in partnership with CREAMAR Mijas, part of the Mediterranean Sea Classroom Foundation.

The aim is to explain to residents and visitors how plastic waste affects seas and oceans, while encouraging more responsible habits related to consumption, waste separation and recycling.

The campaign will bring environmental education directly to the public through a practical activity held beside the coast.

AquaMijas Tickets in Exchange for Plastic Bottle Caps

To encourage participation, residents registered in Mijas who bring 30 plastic bottle caps will receive two tickets to AquaMijas.

Participants must present their ID to prove that they are registered in the municipality. The tickets will be valid on assigned dates during August and will be distributed in order of arrival while supplies last.

An Initiative to Protect the Mijas Coastline

‘Blue Territory’ aims to draw attention to the accumulation of plastic and other waste in marine ecosystems, one of the main environmental problems currently affecting coastal areas.

Through this campaign, Mijas Town Council hopes to strengthen public involvement in protecting the coastline and demonstrate how small everyday actions can help reduce marine pollution.
