Teatro del Soho CaixaBank once again becomes one of Andalusia's cultural hotspots this July, with a lineup that pairs the world premiere of one of Spanish theatre's most anticipated new productions with a spectacular symphonic concert honoring one of the 20th century's most influential composers. The venue driven by Antonio Banderas brings Rafael Álvarez El Brujo and the Soho's Larios Pop Symphony Orchestra to its stage, in yet another showcase of its commitment to artistic excellence and genre diversity.

'The Second Coming of Christ, or Jesus's Yoga' – Rafael Álvarez El Brujo (World Premiere)

El Brujo presents a witty monologue blending philosophy, spirituality, and humor to offer a deeply personal reading of the Gospels — especially the Gospel of John — through the lens of Eastern philosophy and the Indian yoga tradition. The production grew out of a research process carried out alongside musician Javier Alejano, and aims to weave together reflection, stage rhythm, music, and comedy into a strikingly original piece.

The actor himself has described the show as merging "the science of the soul with rhythm, humor, a sense of celebration, and dynamism," the hallmarks of all his productions, always aiming to win over the audience through laughter. Álvarez has also expressed his delight at premiering the piece in Málaga specifically, where he'll spend the days beforehand finalizing rehearsals and polishing a production meant to open a new chapter in his long career on stage.

'Gershwin in Blue' Concert – The Soho's Larios Pop Symphony Orchestra

  • Dates: Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19
  • Time: Saturday at 7:00 PM, Sunday at 12:00 PM
  • Tickets from €25

The following weekend brings one of the season's most anticipated concerts. The Soho's Larios Pop Symphony Orchestra, conducted by maestro Arturo Díez Boscovich, will run through some of George Gershwin's most iconic compositions — a composer widely regarded as the great innovator of American music for blending symphonic language with jazz and popular music.

The program includes instantly recognizable pieces such as the overture to An American in Paris and the legendary Rhapsody in Blue, one of the most representative works in American musical history. It will also revisit excerpts from Porgy and Bess, the composer's only opera, home to the unforgettable Summertime.

One of the concert's biggest draws will be the participation of Málaga-born pianist Marcos Castilla, currently training at New York's prestigious Bard College Conservatory of Music. The young soloist returns to the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank stage to perform some of the most virtuosic pages of Gershwin's repertoire, closing out a season that once again confirms the Málaga venue as one of the leading stages on the national cultural scene.
