Lifeguards in Torremolinos save the life of a beach bar customer who suffered a heart attack
Torremolinos
18/05/2026 at 18:05h.The lifeguards of Torremolinos lived up to their name and managed to resuscitate a woman who was enjoying a beach bar in the coastal town.
The lifeguards were alerted by a Local Police officer who, last Saturday, as announced by the City Council, noticed that a woman was having a heart attack while she was at the establishment. Alerted by the officer, a team from the Lifeguard Service rushed to the location. There, they found a person experiencing chest pain and symptoms consistent with a heart attack, who even lost consciousness.
The beach guards, who had mobilized the Rapid Intervention Vehicle, used the defibrillator they have and in just one minute managed to make the woman regain consciousness. Shortly after, a mobile ICU arrived to transport her to the hospital.
Fortunately for the beach bar customer, all the professionals involved in providing assistance worked quickly.
The rescue, lifeguard, and first aid device is composed of 23 professionals, distributed in 11 watchtowers, and for their work, they have an ambulance, two jet skis, and a rapid intervention vehicle, which is equipped with an automatic external defibrillator, a device that, in this case, was crucial in saving a person's life, as highlighted by the councilor for Beaches, Miguel Domínguez.
Contract
Torremolinos formalized the contract for surveillance, rescue, lifeguard, first aid, medical assistance and transport, and assisted bathing on its beaches, for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, at the beginning of April.
The tender was awarded, last February 19, to the consortium of companies formed by General Health Services Andalucía and Atlantic, based in Alcalá de Guadaíra, province of Seville, after an open procedure initiated last November 30, 2025, which saw 5 contractors participating and whose specifications were rectified.
The amount to be paid by the City Council for this basic service, taxes included, is 1.1 million euros.
The schedule is from 11:00 to 19:00, from the end of Holy Week until June 1, on weekends and holidays, while the entire summer season, from June 1 to September 30, will be offered from 11:00 to 20:00. These are 148 days a year, for each of the agreed terms.
The agreement for outsourcing this mission also includes that the contractor will conduct environmental education activities on the beaches of the municipality and an annual simulation of the Rescue, Safety, and First Aid Plan, as well as other drills that are carried out to meet the requirements of the Quality Q distinction, which the four beaches of the municipality hold.
