Rincón will celebrate a prehistoric archaeology workshop for UNESCO's International Day for Monuments and Sites

Rincón de la Victoria will hold a Prehistoric Archaeology workshop as part of the International Day of Monuments and Sites of UNESCO, promoted by Icomos (International Council on Monuments and Sites). Consequently, the Municipality has opened the registration period for a workshop that will take place on April 18.

The workshop will be coordinated by Pedro Cantalejo, who also presented in Rincón de la Victoria a book analyzing the life of the Neanderthals in Málaga more than 150,000 years ago. María del Mar Espejo and her research team will also participate in the workshop. The workshop will be free and is aimed at people over 12 years old, lasting about three hours, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

To register, the Municipality has provided the following email address: cuevasdeltesoro@rincondelavictoria.es. As detailed, the registration should include full name, place of residence, contact phone number, and personal email.

The registration period is open, as detailed by the municipality in a statement, until April 16 or until the 20 available spots are filled. Therefore, they insist that those interested should register as soon as possible. This activity is also included in the European Cultural Itinerary CARP.

What the workshop will involve

The activity will consist of a first hour of archaeological workshop, where archaeological remains from the different stages of occupation of the prehistoric caves of the municipality will be shown and shared with the participants, explaining how they are obtained, the process of documentation, classification, study, analysis, and publication.

A second hour in which the group, inside the cavity, will be able to directly learn about the analyses and results obtained in the archaeological sequence that has been carried out inside the Sala de la Virgen. They will explain the scientific methods applied and those being carried out in this phase of the research project.

And a third hour in which the main galleries of the Cueva del Tesoro will be toured to explain the advances in the study of Paleolithic rock art and the initial chronological results obtained through the use of uranium series.
