Estepona expands the 'Free Books' network with the installation of booths in the 13 schools of the city

The City Council of Estepona has expanded the network of 'Free Books' with the installation of 23 new booths at the entrances of the 13 public schools in the municipality, a measure aimed at promoting reading and the exchange of books outside educational centers, as reported this Thursday by the councilor for Culture and Festivals, Macarena Diánez.

The councilor recalled that this network, which started with a dozen wooden houses located in places like Plaza de las Flores, the Botanical-Orchid Park, or the seafront, has been "excellently" received by the citizens, which has driven this second phase focused on schools.

Thus, she pointed out that readers of any age can pick up or drop off books for free at these booths at any time of the day, with the aim that the books can have more life by now bringing this initiative to the educational community.

Diánez highlighted that this expansion aims to foster the reading habit from an early age and encourage students, families, and teachers to participate in the book exchange. "We want the children of Estepona to grow up surrounded by books, understanding that reading can be shared and enjoyed in community," she stated.

The new booths, like the 10 that were installed at different points in the urban and rural areas, are integrated into the network created last April under the slogan 'Take it, read it, and share it.' Each one of them will allow users to deposit or pick up books freely, promoting reuse and free access to reading.

The councilor recalled that this network, which began with a dozen wooden houses located in places like Plaza de las Flores, the Botanical-Orchid Park, or the seafront, has been "excellently" received by the citizens, which has driven this second phase focused on schools and adding up to a total of 23 booths distributed throughout the municipality.

Furthermore, the municipal officer has announced that the City Council will continue to supply new titles to the booths and will study future expansions to keep bringing reading closer to all the neighborhoods of the municipality. "We want Estepona to be a city where books are within everyone's reach, in every park, in every square, and now also in every school," she concluded.
