Cinema, Flamenco, Jazz, Circus, and Magic: Benalmádena Takes Culture to the Streets

From the upcoming 22nd of July until the 8th of August, a new edition of 'Culture on the Street' will be held. The program, organized by the Benalmádena City Council, is structured around four main themes, one for each night from Tuesday to Friday, and includes a total of 12 events.

Tuesdays will be dedicated to family outdoor cinema, with screenings at the Los Nadales venue and at Malapesquera beach. Wednesdays will feature concerts that blend jazz and Cuban rhythms at venues such as Parque de la Paloma and Castillo El Bil Bil.

Thursdays will be the turn of contemporary circus and magic, with family shows in places like Pueblosol. And Fridays, flamenco art will conclude each week, with performances by artists like Rafael Vílchez, Isabel Guerrero, and Andrés Cansino at locations such as the plazas of Andalucía and Tribuna and Castillo El Bil Bil.

'Culture on the Street' will kick off on Tuesday at Los Nadales at 10:00 PM with the screening of the movie 'Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire', and will continue the next day at the same time at Parque de la Paloma with the music of 'Yailo Beltrán y los fuera de serie'. The first week of activities will be completed by the Circus of the Stars gala (July 24 at 9:00 PM at Adolfo Suárez square) and the performance by the flamenco group of Rafael Vílchez's company (July 25 at 10:00 PM at Andalucía square).

The program organized by the City Council has been criticized by the United Left party, which managed the Culture Department in the previous administration. The party regrets the "continuous deterioration" of 'Culture on the Street', a program that started in 2016 and that "over time —they claim— became a benchmark both on the Costa del Sol and in the province, adding to our tourist package a distinctive seal complementary to the sun and beach offer."

"In the last year that we had the opportunity to manage this program, 25 cultural events were held, and for this year 12 have been scheduled, even one less than last year," IU points out, criticizing "the budget cut" that the Culture Department has suffered, which they estimate at 221,478 euros, a 31.8% reduction.
