Benalmádena inaugurates the first day center for homeless people

Benalmádena has attended the opening of the first day center for homeless people launched in the coastal town, located on Red Cross Street. The mayor, Juan Antonio Lara, along with the councilor for Social Welfare, Áurea Peralta, attended the launch of the new facility, a pioneering infrastructure in the municipality "that reinforces the local administration's commitment to people in vulnerable situations," the City Council highlighted in a press release. The establishment of this center was made possible thanks to its inclusion in the Strategic Grant Plan 2025 of the Benalmádena City Council, with municipal funding of 35,000 euros. This space offers "a dignified and safe environment for homeless people, with basic services such as laundry, showers, toilets, food and drink, in addition to promoting processes of social integration and personal autonomy," they point out. During the opening ceremony, the mayor emphasized the importance of this initiative: "Today we take a step forward in our commitment to a fairer and more supportive Benalmádena. This center is much more than a care location: it is an opportunity to rebuild lives, to offer hope to those who need it most." "We will continue working from the City Council, hand in hand with social entities like the Red Cross, to ensure that no resident is left behind," Lara highlighted. The day center opens its doors from Monday to Friday, from 10 AM to 1 PM, providing comprehensive care to homeless individuals with the support of specialized staff and Red Cross volunteers. In this regard, Áurea Peralta emphasized that this project "responds to a real need of the municipality" and is part of "a municipal strategy aimed at inclusion, dignity, and the rights of the people." The Benalmádena City Council has thanked the Red Cross volunteers, "who play an essential role in the development of this service, consolidating a city model that places people at the center of its policies."
