Javier Imbroda now has a sports arena in Torremolinos

The president of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno, inaugurated this Monday, along with the president of the Provincial Council of Malaga, Francisco Salado, and the mayor of Torremolinos, Margarita del Cid, the 'Javier Imbroda' sports pavilion. Located in the El Pinillo area of the town, the pavilion is named after the former basketball coach and selector and counselor of Education and Sport of the Regional Government of Andalusia. This facility will serve 2,000 athletes, complementing the existing sports facilities in the municipality and will be mainly used by local clubs and participants of the Sports Department's directed activities. The construction was co-financed by the Provincial Council of Malaga, which contributed one million euros, and by the Municipality, whose investment amounted to 860,151 euros. The building, about 2,000 square meters in size, includes a multi-sport court measuring 48.40 by 34.50 meters with a height of eight meters, and will be used for various sports. It also has auxiliary spaces such as changing rooms, toilets, a reception-concierge area, and a first aid/nursing station. Moreno highlighted the importance of this infrastructure, which, he pointed out, will "revitalize this area" of El Pinillo and was a "highly demanded action by the residents themselves." "When something related to sports and youth is inaugurated, it is double joy because we are betting on the present and the future," he affirmed. The Andalusian president valued the institutional collaboration at a time when "there is so much noise, too much; now that there are so many ugly news and so much mess" and emphasized the "sincere, honest cooperation" between the Municipality, the Provincial Council, and the Regional Government on different projects. He also praised the work of the president of the Provincial Council, "always thinking about the province and Málaga continuing to grow, improve, push, and there the Provincial Council plays a very significant role"; and also that of the mayor of Torremolinos, whom he assured is "enhancing" this town that "is already a national and international brand," which has "its own personality and enormous dynamism" and that "can still reach much higher levels." Additionally, he paid an emotional tribute to Javier Imbroda, remembering his work as "a giant in the human sphere" and a person "affectionate, empathetic, and loving" who "was hard not to love." "He was one of those people you always want to have close," Moreno asserted, reiterating that when Imbroda was counselor, he was the one who "united us, taught us, guided us, and motivated us; and he always did it with a lot of affection, with a lot of love." Francisco Salado, the president of the Provincial Council of Malaga, emphasized the importance of improving and increasing sports facilities and installations, which help promote sports practice and healthy habits. "From the Provincial Council of Malaga, we see it that way, and that is our commitment. Just one example. Last year we dedicated ten million euros to a line of aid aimed at municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants for the construction of sports centers or for the covering of existing sports courts. And we have proposals from almost fifty towns," he said. He highlighted that the provincial institution supports actions for both the smallest municipalities and also for projects like the sports pavilion in Torremolinos and explained that the one million euros subsidy to this town was part of the aid line aimed at municipalities in the province with more than 20,000 inhabitants. "The Provincial Council of Malaga is here to help people, no matter where they live, because the actions we finance in the municipalities with a larger number of inhabitants benefit the entire environment in general, both small and large municipalities," he emphasized. Moreover, he congratulated the Municipality for naming the new facility after Javier Imbroda. "He was a reference in sports --he stressed-- who contributed so much to national basketball and, of course, to that of Malaga. His trail of effort and success in all areas has made him a figure who serves as a model for our children and our youth. And this is a beautiful and fitting way for his memory to endure." For her part, Del Cid said that in Torremolinos "sport is lived in a special way, it is a lifestyle. We have a spectacular grassroots sports network, with many disciplines that accompany not only in results but in a dynamic that infects the entire city." The mayor highlighted that this new pavilion "is an example of collaboration between institutions, and this project has been possible thanks to the commitment of the Provincial Council." "We need a strong alliance with those administrations that can and should contribute to improving the resources with which local administrations count, which are never enough," she stressed. She also emphasized that "it is special because of the name it bears," ensuring that Imbroda "contributed to the idea of this segment as something transversal and that made the whole society participate." "That is why this pavilion bears his name, because of the impact it will have on the grassroots sports of the city, helping the clubs and teams that train throughout the year to compete and enjoy," she said. At the event, family members of Javier Imbroda were also present, including his widow, Salvadora Acosta, who spoke to ensure that for the entire family "it is a pride that so many people continue to always have Javier present." The new sports facility meets the demand for covered facilities. Around 1,000 athletes from local clubs, from various sports disciplines, will use this new multipurpose infrastructure. Additionally, another 1,000 users of the directed activities of the Sports Department will move their training to the new facility, thus relieving the San Miguel Palace. Disciplines such as aerosalsa, badminton, body mind, body wellness, functional training, fitness, multifitness, pilates, and senior gymnastics will be carried out in the new pavilion.
