The Local Police of Fuengirola will increase traffic controls this summer after an incident where a drunk and unlicensed woman caused a multiple pedestrian crash on a terrace along the seafront, killing two people. The police already conduct checks in the morning, afternoon, and evening at random locations throughout the municipality to prevent and detect offenses such as speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, improper use of mobile devices, or seat belts. This summer, between three and five daily checks will be carried out, three on regular days and two additional checks (for alcohol and drugs) on weekends throughout the city, with special attention on the seafront promenade. These checks are part of the special summer operation, which will involve more than 11,600 overtime hours from today, June 13, until September 7. Officers will be organized into two shifts: morning-afternoon (from 11 AM to 8 PM) and evening-night (from 8 PM to 2 AM, and until 5 AM on Fridays, Saturdays, and the eve of holidays). The regular service will be reinforced with between six and sixteen additional officers, reaching up to 24 on Fridays, Saturdays, and the eve of holidays.
