Two 'green dragons' are born at Bioparc Fuengirola: the father of the offspring was rescued from the illegal exotic species trade

Two emerald monitor lizard hatchlings have been born at Bioparc Fuengirola after more than five months of controlled incubation. But behind this birth lies a beautiful story. The father of these hatchlings was seized from the illegal exotic species trade and rescued. What could have been an end turned into a beginning. In fact, thanks to expert care and a naturalized environment, this monitor lizard has been part of a pioneering reproductive process in Spain, as highlighted by Bioparc in a statement.

These reptiles, with their striking green color and native to New Guinea, are not only noted for their beauty but are also surprisingly intelligent and spend almost their entire lives among the treetops. The birth of these hatchlings, independent from the first moment, represents a milestone in the captive breeding of a species threatened by habitat destruction and illegal trafficking.

It has been a challenge for the Fuengirola park from the incubation, which simulated the transition from the wet to the dry season, to the moment when the young monitors began their lives climbing and independently.
