Benalmádena will invest 800,000 euros in the rehabilitation of the Bil-Bil Castle

The Benalmádena Town Council has opened a public tender for the rehabilitation of Castillo El Bil-Bil with a base budget of 827,096.15 euros. The project aims to improve the energy efficiency of the building, enhance its functionality, and update its image for tourism with an investment of up to 654,000 euros funded by the Sustainable Tourism in Destinations Plan, with the remaining funds provided by the Town Council's own resources. The project seeks not only to enhance energy efficiency but also to highlight its emblematic character that has made it a landmark of the municipality, as explained by Mayor Juan Antonio Lara (PP). The goal is to "present a modern and functional image that reflects the natural, contemporary, and welcoming character of Benalmádena and its coast." The works will allow for the conditioning of the roof of El Castillo building, which is 855 square meters, the repair of the facades, the replacement of the skylight with another of contemporary design and better features, as well as the restoration of the carpentry and protective grilles. In the El Portal building, which is 250 square meters, the project includes the refurbishment of wing 1 to house the Tourist Information Office and carry out maintenance, restoration, and installation planning tasks to condition wing 2 for show cooking activities. This last space has three bathrooms, two rooms, a storage area, and a garage, currently unused due to lack of maintenance and conditioning. The idea is to address two levels of different actions in each for the comprehensive transformation of all the spaces in a joint project with the Culture area. The objective is to turn it into a reference space on the Costa del Sol after the rehabilitation works, as explained by Mayor Juan Antonio Lara.
