Palma, Calviá, and Torremolinos: The three most accessible sun and beach destinations by public transport

The report `Solytur 2024´, prepared by the association of sector operators Exceltur, which analyzes the 20 most relevant sun and beach destinations ... in terms of the volume of hotel overnight stays, places Torremolinos as the third in this ranking in terms of accessibility by means of transport, behind Palma de Mallorca and Calviá, in the Balearic Islands. This position is influenced by the fact that Malaga airport closed the last year with 25 million passengers. Regarding international traffic, the markets with the highest demand were the British, German, Dutch, and French, the main sources of tourists for Torremolinos. The city also stands out in aspects such as connectivity and air frequency, the distance from the air terminal to the tourist area, or the connection with the railway and high-speed train stations.

Other pillars in which Torremolinos ranks among the top ten destinations in the country include the maintenance and enhancement of the coast as a tourist product and the economic and social performance and outcomes. Exceltur also highlights other points such as the accessibility and recreational enhancement of the beaches, the effectiveness in waste treatment and in water sanitation and treatment, as well as the implementation of measures to promote civic behavior at the destination.

The positioning of Torremolinos reflects the most relevant aspects on which most of its tourism competitiveness is based, understood as the ability to sustainably increase the contribution to the well-being of local societies in the long term, thereby favoring the results of the business fabric that directly or indirectly benefits from tourism, as considered by Exceltur.
