The Torremolinos Conference Center will host FreakCon, the 9th international festival of manga, comics, TV series, and video games on the 24th and 25th of May. FreakCon aims to become the leading event in Southern Spain for geek culture, which brings together people fascinated by technology, computing, pop culture, video games, comics, cult movies and music, as well as science fiction and fantasy.
The director of FreakCon, Mónica Ibars, explained that the festival will host a wide variety of guests from the worlds of comics, film, and video games, interactive zones, live podcasts, competitions, exclusive exhibitions, and a comprehensive program designed for all audiences. "FreakCon is coming back stronger than ever. This year we have more than 400 activities, designed for a diverse and passionate audience. We've crafted a program that combines entertainment, community, and all the universes that characterize FreakCon, with a clear premise: that every person who enters the venue feels that there's something specially created for them."
This edition, in addition to extending hours to include nighttime activities, will gather one of the broadest and most diverse selections of guests since its inception. Content creators, voice actors, artists, comic authors, video game developers, film experts, TikTokers, YouTubers, podcasters, cosplayers, and leaders in the world of digital and alternative entertainment will be present.
The event has already confirmed the first names for its ninth edition, including Mister Jägger, a well-known content creator; Nikotxan, the charismatic creator of the iconic animated series "Cálico Electrónico"; and Tami Tamako, a cosplayer and content creator specialized in Japanese culture and anime. Also joining are Djoseppe, Comic Pau, and Quinto Emperador, figures in the One Piece scene with a significant track record on digital platforms; Elesky, a musician and streamer noted for her impressive piano renditions of video game, anime, and movie soundtracks, and the podcasters of La Placita Amarilla.
The celebration of FreakCon 2025 has also been made possible thanks to the support of leading brands committed to alternative culture and entertainment. Among them are OPEL, the official car of the festival, as well as LEGO, GAME, Bandai Namco, POSCA, Erik Store, and Playmobil, which will contribute thematic spaces, exclusive activities, and unique experiences for attendees. Their involvement reinforces the multidisciplinary nature of the event and its ability to connect with audiences of all ages.
Across all its 8 editions, FreakCon has gathered more than 350,000 attendees, establishing itself as one of the national and international benchmarks in pop culture, digital leisure, and youth entertainment.
The mayor of Torremolinos, Margarita del Cid (PP), highlighted the impact of the festival on the local economy: "FreakCon has become a unique event, where visitors have the opportunity to enjoy each of the activities. Last year's edition exceeded my expectations and is one of the decisions I am most proud of."
The third vice president of the Malaga Provincial Council, Antonia Ledesma, emphasized the value of FreakCon as a cultural engine and tool to attract young culture and tourism: "This festival fits in a technological, inclusive, and original province that offers cultural and leisure alternatives to all audiences and complements sectors in which we are leaders, such as tourism."
And the Government Delegate in Malaga, Patricia Navarro, stated that "FreakCon has become the epicenter of geek and pop culture not only from a national perspective but also internationally. Moreover, coinciding with World Geek Pride Day makes it even more special."
