FreakCon Torremolinos: 500 Activities to Enjoy Geek Pride
The event will take place on May 24 and 25 at the Convention Center, with nearly 45,000 tickets almost sold out and confirmations such as Elesky or Tami Tamako.
Elesky, Bárbara, Jorge Vázquez, Míster Jägger, Tami Tamako, La Placita Amarilla, José Davinci, Tomás Castellanos, Nikotxan... are some of the guests invited to Freakcon 2025, which will be held on May 24 and 25, coinciding with Geek Pride Day, at the Torremolinos Conference Center.
Those who recognize these names will enjoy the celebration on the last Sunday of the month on their own merits; those who do not, have a chance to become true 'geeks' with a simple visit, out of curiosity, to this event, one of the most important for lovers of comics, K-Pop, or video games in Spain.
This is demonstrated by its impressive figures. Mónica Ibars, the person in charge of the convention and general director at Kaiju and also of the OXO Video Game Museum in Madrid, confirms that attendance of about 45,000 people is expected, the maximum possible due to the dimensions of the venue, and that the "sold out" sign is about to be posted. There are about five hundred activities planned, in a 30,000 square meter leisure space, at this "happy event," as Ibars describes it, where workshops, contests, live shows, and concerts will take place in an intense schedule that will include costume competitions, origami classes, or insights into the world of One Piece, in addition to live music and food trucks.
This great showcase of geek culture returns to Torremolinos for the second year, in its ninth edition, and the idea, as Ibars points out, is to continue in this coastal city, where both promoters and the public are comfortable, as she clearly states.
The hosting mayor, Margarita del Cid, has highlighted the "family-friendly" nature of this event, which, as she has acknowledged, has been one of the most surprising since she took office, and she is delighted that the town is the "geek epicenter" and that it adds, to its calendar of significant dates, pride in this condition to its already traditional Pride.
Patricia Navarro, the Andalusian government's delegate in the province, convinced that, in her words, "not everything can stay in Málaga," highlighted that the arrival of FreakCon in Torremolinos, which, according to its organizers, generates an economic return exceeding 8 million euros, is an example of the Costa del Sol's ability to attract all types of events "must permeate" the territory, beyond the capital.
The regional official also recalled that this great pop culture fair comes after March's Comicmed, which started with the idea of becoming a reference for graphic novels in the Mediterranean, and as an appetizer for the San Diego Comic-Con Málaga, in September.
Toñi Ledesma, third vice president of the Provincial Council, who, like the City Council and the Regional Government, sponsors FreakCon, highlighted that the possibility of enjoying these activities reinforces the "diverse" character of Málaga Province.
