Fuengirola achieves Blue Flags for all its beaches for the sixth consecutive year
The town's rescue and lifeguard service has also received a special mention.
Fuengirola has achieved for the sixth consecutive year that one hundred percent of its beaches are recognized with Blue Flags. Additionally, the entity that manages these distinctions in Spain, the Association of Environmental Education and the Consumer (ADEAC), has awarded a special mention to the lifeguard and rescue service, highlighting it as one of the three best in the country, alongside Palma de Mallorca and Sant Llorenç des Cardassar.
This is the tenth time that the entire Fuengirola coastline has been awarded this prestigious international accolade. Specifically, this achievement occurred in the years 2009, 2010, 2017, 2018, and consecutively, from 2020 to the present.
These awards emphasize aspects such as the good condition of the beaches, the services provided there, accessibility, environmental management, as well as the properties of the waters.
The process for obtaining the Blue Flags oversees the suitability of the beaches and other parameters such as accessibility. Currently, all four beaches in the city have an area adapted for people with reduced mobility with shaded areas, decking floor to facilitate movement with wheelchairs or for people who have other difficulties, and also have lifeguard assistance. Additionally, two seasons ago, the City Council incorporated an audio guide system that allows bathing assistance for blind people.
Regarding safety, the beaches of Fuengirola also have, in addition to lifeguards and security guards, a drone surveillance service throughout the coastline.
