Over a thousand international athletes will leave an economic impact of nearly 600,000 euros in Torremolinos in April.

Sports tourism will generate an economic impact of 579,200 euros this April in Torremolinos, a figure that complements the impact of the thousands of visitors who have visited the city this Easter. During this April, a thousand international athletes from 48 European teams will pass through the municipal sports facilities of Torremolinos to train. A total of 565 athletes from 26 swimming teams, the majority from Germany and the United Kingdom, although there are also teams from France, Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Serbia, will train at the Virgen del Carmen III pool facilities. Additionally, 323 athletes from 18 athletics teams, mostly from Norway and Sweden, and others from the Netherlands, Estonia, and Denmark will train throughout April at the Ciudad de Torremolinos Sports Stadium. Moreover, three football teams and one multi-sport team complete the arrival of tourists who will generate a total of 7,240 overnight stays in the municipality's hotel facilities. Last year, Torremolinos recorded its best year in terms of sports tourism with a 47% increase in tourists reaching 4,691 athletes, figures that reflect the strength of a sector with an increase of 1,507 athletes compared to 2023. From an economic standpoint, sports tourism generated a direct impact of 2,213,834 euros in 2024, a 45% increase from 2023, when it stood at 1,522,400 euros. Overnight stays linked to sports tourism have grown notably in 2024, specifically by 40% more than the previous year, reaching 26,791, which represents 7,711 more than in 2023.
