Alcampo to open its first company-owned supermarket in Andalusia in Benalmádena on 19 November
The new store at Altos del Higuerón Shopping Centre will offer 1,200 square metres of retail space, staffed fresh-food counters, online order collection and an initial team of 37 employees.
Alcampo has confirmed the opening date for its new supermarket in Benalmádena. The store will welcome its first customers on Thursday, 19 November 2026, from 9am, at Altos del Higuerón Shopping Centre.
The opening represents an important milestone for the retailer, as it will be the first supermarket in Andalusia to be directly owned and operated by Alcampo.
The company has operated in the region since 1989, but its Andalusian business has previously focused primarily on the hypermarket format.
The new store will provide approximately 1,200 square metres of retail space, with fresh food and personalised counter service playing a central role in its commercial offer.
Where to find the new Alcampo in Benalmádena
The supermarket will be located at Altos del Higuerón Shopping Centre, in the El Higuerón area and close to the municipal boundary between Benalmádena and Fuengirola.
Access is available near exit 1008 of the A-7 motorway, providing convenient connections from Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Mijas and other destinations along the Costa del Sol.
The shopping centre has more than 100 parking spaces and already contains a range of businesses and services, including restaurants, a pharmacy, dental clinic, café and estate agencies.
Opening at 9am on 19 November
The new Alcampo supermarket will officially open at 9am on 19 November.
Its expected regular opening hours will be 9am to 10pm. The store will also be able to operate on Sundays and public holidays when permitted under the Andalusian retail calendar.
Customers planning to visit on a public holiday should check the latest opening information, as trading hours may vary depending on seasonal and regional regulations.
Staffed fresh-food counters
Fresh produce will be one of the supermarket’s principal features.
The store will include counters staffed by professionals specialising in:
- Butchery.
- Delicatessen products.
- Fish and seafood.
- Fruit and vegetables.
- Bakery products.
- Cheese.
- Prepared meals.
A total of 15 employees will provide specialist service across these departments.
The supermarket will also feature a dedicated wine area and a broad selection of brands designed to cover both everyday shopping and more specific customer requirements.
Online shopping and refrigerated collection lockers
The store will provide services for customers who prefer to place their orders online.
Online purchases can be collected from refrigerated lockers, which will keep food at the correct temperature until customers arrive.
This system will allow shoppers to collect their groceries without completing a conventional trip around the store, providing a more flexible option for local residents.
The available collection times and specific terms of the service will be published through Alcampo’s sales channels once the supermarket is operational.
An initial workforce of 37 employees
The supermarket will begin trading with a team of 37 employees.
Of these, 25 will be newly recruited workers, while another 12 employees will transfer from the Alcampo store in Marbella after voluntarily applying to move to the Benalmádena location.
During the recruitment process, the company worked with several local employment and social organisations:
- FUNDATUL.
- Inserta ONCE.
- APPRENDE Benalmádena.
- Asociación Laboral Benalmádena.
The organisations were brought into the process with support from Benalmádena Town Council.
More than 2,400 hours of training
Before the opening, the team will have completed approximately 2,450 hours of training.
The programme covers workplace risk prevention, food safety, customer service and the company’s culture and values.
Employees working in the fresh-food departments have also received specialist instruction through vocational programmes covering butchery, delicatessen products, fish, fruit and vegetables and bakery.
The training is intended to help staff advise customers about the products, their characteristics and their preparation.
Alcampo’s first directly operated supermarket in Andalusia
Alcampo has maintained a presence in Andalusia for more than 35 years and operates several hypermarkets across the region. However, the Benalmádena store will be its first directly managed Alcampo Supermarket in the autonomous community.
The format will allow the company to provide a more local, everyday shopping experience through a store considerably smaller than a traditional hypermarket.
The opening also brings a new food retailer to an area of Benalmádena that has experienced substantial residential growth in recent years.
How to reach the new El Higuerón Alcampo
The most direct route by car is via the A-7 motorway and the exit for El Higuerón.
As the shopping centre is close to the boundary between Benalmádena and Fuengirola, the store will be conveniently located for residents of both municipalities.
Customers using public transport should check the services and stops closest to Altos del Higuerón Shopping Centre. The store may experience higher visitor numbers during its first few days, particularly around midday and in the early evening.
