The Port of Benalmádena welcomes the Ganany, a spectacular 21-meter sustainable catamaran

It wasn't a long visit, but it was certainly intense when the 'Ganany' stopped at Puerto Marina, in Benalmádena. In just a few hours, the presence of the vessel at one of the docks generated great excitement and admiration. Why? It is a spectacular model, as explained by the Marina's Director of Operations, Irene Bruzón, both aesthetically and technologically, featuring sustainable materials. The ship is a catamaran over 21 meters in length and boasts more than 200 square meters of living space, with luxury cabins and a total capacity for 8 people, including 3 crew members, one of whom is a chef.

"Its operation is completely electric, with a unique sail system that works like a bellows, as they remain folded when not in use," clarifies Bruzón.

When deployed, these wings generate energy for self-sufficiency, which is complemented by other clean methods, as the 'Ganany' also has solar panels and utilizes rainwater.

In fact, this stop at the marina in Benalmádena, which has a thousand moorings prepared to accommodate boats ranging from 6 to 35 meters, was purely technical, as clarified by the marina's manager, because, by law, it is necessary to maintain a full fuel tank in case other energy sources fail, although, as in this case, the boat does not need fossil fuels to navigate.

José Luis Bergillos, councilor of the Puerto Deportivo de Benalmádena, explains that the Ganany set sail from Brittany, in northern France, and is expected to arrive in Marseille, in the south of the country. Along its journey, it also made a stop in Cádiz.

The 'Ganany', launched in 2024, can be rented for about 49,000 euros for 7 nights, as advertised on the yacht website, boatatsea.com.

During the time they were anchored, the Ganany also took the opportunity to transfer, with the disembarkation of one of the passengers and the addition of a traveler to the passage, who had previously landed at the nearby Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport, located about 8 kilometers away.

The sailing time will also be used to conduct a study of the posidonia, the endemic plant of the Mediterranean that is a fundamental part of its ecosystem. This species is especially prevalent on the eastern coast of Málaga, particularly in the Natural Area of Maro-Cerro Gordo, in Nerja, but it also plays an important role in Calaburras, between Mijas and Fuengirola, and Cabopino, in Marbella.

Last December, the nao Victoria, a replica of the ship that five centuries ago, captained by Magellan and Elcano, embarked on the greatest maritime adventure of all time by circumnavigating the globe, also visited the port of Benalmádena amid great interest. In this case, the stay lasted several days, during which the meticulous carpentry work and historical accuracy that made the reconstruction of this 16th-century technological milestone possible could be admired.
