The Torremolinos City Council has installed two free parking modules for bicycles and electric scooters in Plaza de Andalucía and Plaza Pablo Ruiz Picasso, to promote sustainable urban mobility and improve access to the city center. The modules are equipped with individual parking systems inside, with 10 spaces for bicycles and 10 for scooters, and feature artificial lighting, access control, and charging points for electric vehicles.
The operation is very simple. Users need to access the 'Torremolinos Despega' app and go to the 'Bicycle and Scooter Parking' section where they can register on the 'Novality' app. For this, they will need to provide personal information such as name, address, a phone number, and an email address, accept the terms, and, if under 16 years old, a document of acceptance from a parent or legal guardian.
From that moment, the user can identify themselves using the provided mobile phone number, and access any of the parking spaces in each module 24 hours a day, every day of the year, selecting through the app the parking they want to use.
Both for parking and retrieving their vehicle, the user will request access to the locker through the app, and once they access a space, leave the vehicle and close the door, the parking time will start to be counted. Initially, the service is free, but after 24 hours, a fee will be charged as the goal is to promote daily use.
Bicycles must be introduced backwards, placing the rear wheel in the lower guide, and hanging the handlebar on the sliding hook to fully and comfortably insert the vehicle. There is also space to store a helmet or other personal belongings.
Anyone wanting to recharge their electric vehicle simply needs to connect the charger to the electrical outlet located on the left side of their locker, as the parking facilities are equipped with solar panels.
Usage rules explicitly indicate which spaces should be used for parking bicycles or scooters, as well as personal belongings, and no other activities are allowed in these spaces.
The access system can be activated remotely, so that access and exit problems can be immediately resolved. For this purpose, users will have access to the 24-hour phone number 954 46 80 01, where they can report these incidents.
The installation of these parking modules is part of the implementation of the Low Emission Zone in the municipality of Torremolinos, co-financed by the European Union's Next Generation EU funds, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR).
