Goat Festival 2026 in Casabermeja: food, markets, workshops and tradition on 19 and 20 September

Casabermeja will once again place the Málaga goat at the centre of a full weekend of food, culture and tradition. On Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September 2026, the town will host the 17th Fiesta de la Cabra Malagueña, bringing together gastronomy, livestock heritage and activities for all ages.

The event is organised by Casabermeja Town Hall in collaboration with the Spanish Association of Málaga Goat Breeders, whose headquarters have been based in the town since 1986.

A food route with goat meat and cheese at the heart of the menu

One of the main attractions will be the Málaga Goat Gastronomic Route.

Participating establishments will offer tapas, dishes and other recipes made with Malagueña suckling goat and products derived from goat’s milk.

The aim is to showcase the ingredient in different ways, combining traditional recipes with more creative interpretations prepared by local businesses.

There will also be a market selling Málaga goat cheeses, local produce and handicrafts, giving visitors the chance to take some of the region’s flavours home with them.

Bottle-feeding kids and walking with a shepherd

The festival will also offer a closer look at Casabermeja’s livestock traditions.

Throughout the weekend there will be an exhibition of Málaga goats and several activities involving the animals. One of the most popular family-friendly experiences will be the chance to bottle-feed young goats.

Another returning activity is ‘Pastoreando’, which allows visitors to accompany a local shepherd and follow the herd through the surrounding countryside.

The route is approximately one kilometre long, with transport to the starting point provided by minibus.

Places are limited, so advance booking may be required.

Cheese-making, crafts and children’s activities

The programme is designed to make the festival suitable for families as well as food lovers.

The Casa de la Cabra Malagueña will host visits and activities explaining more about the breed, its farming traditions and its importance to the rural economy and culture of Málaga province.

There will also be cheese workshops and tastings, as well as activities linked to pottery, esparto grass crafts and other traditional skills.

For younger visitors, the programme includes traditional games, arts and crafts, balloon modelling, badge and bracelet workshops and face painting, in addition to activities involving the goats.

Music, verdiales and local traditions

Casabermeja’s streets will also come alive with music throughout the weekend.

The programme includes traditional Maragatas, a performance by the Puerto Marín verdiales group, flamenco fitness displays and other musical performances.

Among them will be Dolce Luna, performing well-known hits from the 1980s and 1990s.

The festival therefore combines food and farming heritage with some of the musical traditions most closely associated with inland Málaga.

Art in the streets of Casabermeja

The 2026 edition will also include the 7th Outdoor Painting Competition, bringing artists into different parts of the town to capture its streets, landscapes and atmosphere.

This adds a creative dimension to a festival already built around local identity and heritage.

Other workshops will include activities related to pottery, esparto crafts and prehistoric painting.

A chance to discover Casabermeja’s heritage

Visitors can also use the festival as an opportunity to explore some of the town’s best-known historic sites.

Open days and visits are planned around places such as the San Sebastián Cemetery, the Church of Nuestra Señora del Socorro and the Ceramics Museum.

That means the weekend can be much more than a food event, combining local cuisine with a wider visit to Casabermeja and its heritage.

The 17th Fiesta de la Cabra Malagueña offers a particularly varied plan for 19 and 20 September: goat dishes, local cheeses, livestock activities, workshops, traditional music, artisan stalls and cultural visits.

Some activities have limited capacity and may require advance registration, so checking the programme before travelling is recommended.
