Torremolinos removes 120 tons of reeds and now has its beaches ready for the arrival of tourists during Easter Week

The beaches of Torremolinos are now ready for the start of Holy Week. The City Council has removed 120 tons of reeds from the coast, dragged by the DANAs of February and March, and guarantees that the beaches are at an optimal 100% level for this Good Friday. The Torremolinos City Council workers have managed to mitigate the damages suffered by the coast with the removal of hundreds of tons from the beaches, after removing about 5,000 tons from the storms of October and November. These efforts have been completed with sand sifting tasks using manual and mechanical means, and sand contributions, especially in areas most affected by the recent storms like Carihuela-Saltillo, with a total of 15,000 cubic meters, according to the Council. The workers have spent these weeks maintaining gardens, green areas, and urban furniture, in addition to installing lifeguard towers for maritime rescue and adapted bathing areas for people with disabilities. Furthermore, drinking water fountains have also been set up, along with the assembly of facilities to initiate the maritime rescue service. The Torremolinos City Council has allocated a total of €1,611,000 for beach maintenance this year 2025. Specifically, this Good Friday marks the start of the surveillance, rescue, lifeguard, first aid, healthcare, medical transport, and assisted bathing services on the beaches of the municipality, ensuring proper conditions of rescue, cleanliness, hygiene, and health. The service will remain active throughout Holy Week, until April 20, Easter Sunday, inclusive. The coast will have 23 lifeguards, one coordinator, two ATS, two boat captains, and one emergency medical technician. Additionally, there will be an advanced life support ambulance, two boats, a coordination vehicle, rescue boards, two surveillance chairs, and all the necessary support material. The basic tasks along the seven kilometers of Torremolinos beaches focus on surveillance from the towers, totaling eleven; beach shore surveillance; surveillance from proximity chairs installed at the beachfront; and surveillance from boats. The service schedule during Holy Week is from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM non-stop, and from April 26 to May 31 inclusive, the service will be conducted on weekends, with the same schedule. Starting June 1 until September 30, the summer operation will be launched, from Monday to Sunday, from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The first aid zones will be located in Bajondillo, Carihuela, and Playamar-Los Álamos. Additionally, Torremolinos will offer assisted bathing services for people with disabilities in the areas of Playamar, Bajondillo, Los Álamos, and Carihuela.
